Burris Fastfire sight on handgun for deer hunting?
WNYBuckHunter replied to Warren's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I dont see how it would hurt as long as you remember to turn it on. -
Heres a deer I shot last season with a 125 Montec. She was quartering to slightly at 15 to 20 yards. Blew right threw her shoulder, out the other side and 8 inches into the dirt.

You can use lighter broadheads if you just add the brass inserts to the front of the arrow. The goal is to increase the FOC of the arrow to increase accuracy with the higher speed bows. If you use a 125 grain broadhead (more common), just add a 25 grain insert and youll be fine. Id suggest the 125 grain G5 Montecs. You can resharpen them easily and they do a number on animals.

I was just busting your chops

I have a couple of spots that I predator hunt that are power line trails. The power company does not own the land, and you would be an idiot to climb the poles or towers. They either lease or own the land where the substations, etc are, thats about it. I also used to deer hunt a piece that had power lines crossing it, the only rule was to stay off of the poles. They are generally great spots to see game crossing because they are so open. From what I have seen, they usually dont cross slowly, so you have to keep constant watch so you spot them when they pop out and pause at the edge before they cross.

HAHAHA, kinda ironic that you think a guy coughing up a lung is gross while stuffing fast food down your gullet.

Its crazy how quickly those big ones ramp up, they go from a small funnel to a massive one in minutes or seconds.

I have a Rola Vortex cargo basket for sale. Its in good shape, we just dont use it any more and I dont need it laying around. When I pulled it off of the truck, some of the threaded rods used to hold it to the roof rack crossbars snapped, but you can easily make new ones with some rubber tubing and threaded rod. The actual brackets and rubber pieces are still fine. The dimensions are 48"L x 37-1/2"W x 4"D and it has the wind deflector. Below is a picture of the basket on our Durango for reference. $150 obo

Of course they are legal to own and shoot, they have never been illegal to own or shoot in NY.

Sweet, Ill have to pick those up and use them on my vertical bow, since that kills a deer in the same way as a crossbow.

The thread wasnt created until after coyote season had ended.

I saw a video where a guy shot a trophy buck at 500 yards with no practice with one. He was using a Rage head and when he got to the deer, it looked like he threw an axe through it! I hope I can do that this year in NY.

Id just leave it, scratch the surface back up and plant the same stuff again for the fall. I have a spot thats gonna get no till thus year, probably the evolved habitat. Its pretty shady, but should do ok. Im going to wait a bit before i plant. -
Who the heck keeps rehashing this old stuff lately lol

You have to have a license, but I couldnt tell you if they look through your record. I dont think they do but Im not sure either way.

Lmao, makes total sense!

Lets see, Im gonna be at 4 years in August. You can throw stuff like this in peoples faces till you turn blue, but it doesnt do much good. You have to want to quit, its that simple. I smoked from the age of 15 until I was 33, and knew it was bad for me. I had family members die of Emphazema, etc in that time. Didnt affect me or sway me at the time. Im not sure I could really put my finger on the exact reason I stopped, I was just done with it. I put the cigs down one day, used the patch for a month and said to heck with those too. Havent had a drag since. I dont miss it one bit.

Have any of you started watching North America on Discovery? Its a nature series along the lines of Life, Planet Earth and Blue Planet. I just watched the first two episodes that I DVR'ed last night, and I really like it so far. Great cinematography for sure, just beautiful scenes and footage of the wildlife. That is what I really enjoy watching on Discovery Channel.

Groups not coming together... Is this why?
WNYBuckHunter replied to josephmrtn's topic in Bow Hunting
Hes talking about shooting multiple "spots" instead of just one spot over and over. Its a method based on the theory that only the first shot counts. When you shoot 10 shots at the same exact spot, you can "walk" them in tighter to the spot unintentionally. It will also save you money because you wont be robin hooding your arrows. I dont shoot groups after I get my equipment sighted in. -
14 year old kid - Best bang for the buck bow setup
WNYBuckHunter replied to jkzfixme's topic in Bow Hunting
Take him to a few pro shops, have them figure out the proper size and draw weight for him, and shoot every bow he can get his hands on. Then go over to archerytalk.com in the classifieds and buy one a year or two old for less than half the price. Brand doesnt matter as long as he shoots it well. Once you buy it, take him and the bow to a pro shop and get it setup for him. If its a decent bow, and he doesnt get into it, you can still get close to your money back on it. -
yep, good deal for the machine.

Nice!

5k would be an absolute steal for a Ranger

Ive used that stuff in the shade before, and it grows surprisingly well. Once the deer find it, they will hammer it pretty quickly. Mine was a small plot, and never lasted till the season. My process that worked best was to hit the area with weed killer (like lawn safe weed killer) just to get the majority of broadleaf stuff out of there. I did that 3 weeks to a month ahead of time. Next was a soil sample, and lime/fertilizer. Then, I roto-tilled the soil just a few inches deep, broadcast the seed and raked it in. One year I did the Evolved Habitat Throw and Gro, the next I did Secret Spot. I liked the Throw and Gro stuff a bit better. -

So just use those and forget the rest. Oh, and set them up all the same, if you are using those shrink fletches, make sure they all have them. Use the same grain practice points, etc.
