I used to travel all over western ny for my job. I was in North Tonawanda near the Deerfield golf course once and there was this huge nontypical standing in the guys yard. We talked about how there was no hunting allowed there and the guy said, "but they do." "In fact one of the biggest in the state (last?) yr (would of been 09 maybe) was shot over here. The guy was blabbing about it in the barber shop. he drove down to cuba and tagged it; saying he shot it there " Maybe someone here knows something about it too? Amazing what how big they can get when allowed to grow up.

add deer collision to my auto policy

Wow, what county is that?
-
yeah, I think the older ones are always more cautious than the yearlings and fawns. But I've also noticed that in the next month or 2 as the testosterone ramps up and more and more people are stopping to check them out, they seem to get more paranoid (at least the bucks).

those are some of the longest brows I've ever seen

That is a beautiful buck!! Thanks for sharing.

I had a couple of those but had a real hard time getting them to stop taking thousands of pics of nothing. Glad its working for you.

Thats a neat experience, when you kinda have a 'relationship' with one deer. I understand its weird but sometimes you don't want anyone to get that deer and you kinda route for him and hope to see him again next yr. Congrats on the blessing from the Lord. Lets see some more of those trail cam pics please.

Is that one of the original wildview cams?
-
anyone have those stats, % chances of injury hunting/driving?
-
I think its a lot easier and certainly fair to give a ballpark, just like guessing some guys age off the street. Do I KNOW he's 42 and 1/3 yrs old, no; but could any reasonable person guess that guy is between 35 and 45 absolutely. Same with deer.
-
Sure its not an exact science. But for most of ny if you just take a guess your odds arnt too bad. a. 1 yr old= maybe 75% chance of being correct b. 2=20% c. 3+=5% add to that there is a big difference in body size, 50 lbs?, and up to 100 inches in antler size between 1 and 3 and you have a decent educated guess. Those are my 'stats' someone who scours the dec site might have the actual #s

It was nice in Indiana that if you only wanted to hunt w/bow or mzl you DID NOT have to buy a big game license first and ALSO a bow license. You paid for a tag in whatever license or multiple license opportunities you wanted. If NY goes the way discussed, they should give bowhunters and mzldr the opportunity to purchase a tag for that season ONLY and not have to also purchase a 'regular firearms' big game license if they don't want to or are not going to get 2 tags.

NY, i'd like the opportunity to try to seek them out. Just don't have the access to do it justice here. I'm afraid i'd just end up hurting my chances for next season if i bump one up that I want to pass on, cause he will die by someone else then, and all I did was stink up the areas that hold deer where I hunt. I'd rather let the neighbors stink up their bedding areas, leave ours smelling pretty and hold the buck there or catch him screaming from the neighbors. Tough and slow sometimes though.
-
If the Lord allows me the time and opportunity, I plan on focusing on a buck or two for the first week or 2 of bow in Oct. Then focus on the doe bedding areas for the next 2-3weeks when the bucks are cruisin, then focus on when and where the neighbors are sending the deer for shotgun. by muzz, I'll hope to sit wherever their eating, but if its like yrs past might have to sit over their beds just to see any movement before dark, after the orange army has them all nocturnal. We'll see.

just saw the video and makes his body looked bigger, probably 2 or more . Still a tough angle to judge. Also depends on where you shot it. Lots of good food around or big woods?
-
tough angle, 1 or 2

When I lived in IN they had just gone to a 1 buck rule. You bought a bow or muzz or gun license. You could by all three, but still only tag 1 buck. I believe you had to pay for their antlerless permits too, but maybe it was just the 2nd or 3rd permit, if available. And just to throw this out there, their bow season was much longer than NY, reg firearm was at least a week shorter. When I lived in OH reg firearm was shorter still--one buck there also I believe. OK wrong thread ;D

Yeah, I understand and I don't make it a point to settle for that. Sometimes equipment needs tuned up and we need practice and we've all started out there. I'm not too proud to admit it.
-
Yeah, it can be pretty disheartening trying to hang a stand and the whole woods is carpeted and every tree is climbing with the stuff. I've gotten it pretty bad, once almost swelled my eye shut. Its everywhere.

just realized I totally messed up that post when I edited it. I meant to say "they" say adding some PREORBITAL SCENT really helps bring them into the licking branch. anyone know where to get some? Do they sell it at Dicks, gander, wallyworld?
-
I've been thinking of putting a cam over a licking branch. "They" (D&DH) say adding some really increases traffic. I think most overhanging branches over the field edges they are feeding in get worked, but the scent might help.

I'm sure there are better bows out there, but that cheap parker IS well made/machined. -

I got mine off AT. I like it, not sure if I think it is TOO short though. Great for a blind or tree stand though. I had a little trouble with noise when I came to full draw and the cable would contact the cam as it opened up. I couldn't find anyone else with the same issue or any fix online. I ended up cutting a short section of rubber band and laid it in the cam channel. Now when I come to full draw the cable hits the rubber band and not the metal cam=no noise.
