  1. Not sure I'm not on the island. I will say octopus stew is the best ever but everything must be fresh
  2. My mom has had a house on an island in Croatia for 25 years. The first time I had octopus was there. Mom retired this year as a teacher so she is living in Croatia 6 months out of the year. Today she sent me this, caught and cooked within 30 minutes she said. Lots of vino with every meal lol even when I was a teen.
  3. Tough eating. Well not for you Blackstone guys. Skin it and Blackstone it. Boom better then venison.
  4. Chipmunk down! But tomatoes are falling over, zucchini plants lost their battle to the heat and weeds need my attention. I'm hot but this was my haul from today. Watch a little baseball, drink a little saki and enjoy the Mets taking four of five from the braves.
  5. Ugh one of my monster Roma tomatoe plants fell over and I can't get it backup. I'll figure something out tomorrow after these winds calm down. Good news, eggplant allows for some stir fry with pork belley tonight.
  6. Anyone have insight into triticale? I know it's a hybrid but I'm looking for positive or negative experiences. Picked a bag up yesterday the co-op didn't have wheat or rye.
  7. Pierogies where mushroom and onion and farmers cheese, potato. Lamb sausage with peppers and onions. Mustard was really good
  8. Anyone who enjoys okra should grow a couple plants. Easy to germinate, easy to grow, easy to harvest. I have four plants three are healthy. I harvest daily and they are great raw, fried or of course as a base for gumbo. They should increase production in the heat and require little to no water. Just an out of the box idea for someone's garden next year.
  9. I believe it's Japanese knotweed. If I'm wrong I would like to know because I have some at my cabin. Very invasive and will take over.
  10. Wow great advice I never thought of that.
  11. That pizza looks almost as good as the Mets win today! I'm not a pizza guy but that's a nice pie.
  12. Haven't been to my garden in a couple days because of work and a quick cabin trip. Except for a chipmunk loving my cherry tomatoes it was a good haul today. Eggplant took a month off but they are growing like crazy now. Soil is very dry.
  13. When I bought mine it was from northern tool. About $350 but also $150 to ship so yeah about $500. I do spray before it helps a ton but not necessary. It does collect grass but it's pretty easy to remove. For me it's perfect, I live three and a half hours away so no tractor, no help from anyone, I simply hook it up and go. Half acre took me about 45 minutes this year (could have used another couple passes). The first year however took numerous hours. Probably 5 hours over three days. The field was overgrown briars and ferns.
  14. I use this behind my atv and have no issue just need to make circles. It does beat on the atv but I've never broke anything in five years. I use to add weight but I don't bother anymore, it works fine as is. The most important thing is to make circles tight, going in straight lines it won't do much at all. I started powerplant three weeks ago and I'm happy with the progress even with the lack of rain and no fertilizer (was a clover plot so nitrogen should be good) this year. I top seeded the plot today with beets and greens. I tried this a couple years ago and had by far the best results of any food plot I've grown. Deer browse the beans and it allows full growth for the brassicas and saves them into late season. Just need se rain Tuesday fingers crossed. Only a half acre but the tonnage provided supports lots of deer.
  15. Jalapeños and a couple wax peppers for my employee tomorrow. She is from Honduras, worked for me 6 or 7 years. Every year during hunting season she gets venison and her family comes in and thanks me (which they don't ever have to do). But garden season I get asked every week for peppers. She has limited room so I give her a couple plants but it's not enough. Good people deserve good things! It makes me so happy to give away what I grow. After canning and eating what my small family can of course.
  16. I have the same plans this weekend Rob. My brother is finally headed up with me so this weekend will be a lot of work. Plan on at least planting one or two fall plots but this weather has me nervous. Tuesday has 40% chance of heavy rain but that's all I got! I will be watching the forecast Sunday before I head back to my house. Hopefully the forecast changes and we get a couple inches of weather in 5h
  17. Paul that is really awesome. I'm doing that with rye into brassicas on Sunday. Hope it looks half as good!
  18. I had the same issue yesterday crappy. They are under the matting.
  19. I'm in. I think tc already renewed the league.
  20. Boy. My brother just had twin girls, had to try and even out the family balance. Thanks for asking
  21. Paid the price for letting to many peppers stay on the same plant. Branches from a banana and jalapeño plant snapped. Plants should be ok but lost a few peppers. Had our gender reveal today so I took all the kids that came over to the garden and let them have at it. They looked so happy, more then the veggies they loved cutting flowers. Cooked for 50 people didn't eat anything but used lots of garlic , zucchini and peppers from the garden. I'm ready for a hard drink. Sunflowers are a week away I'm excited.
