  1. I've been looking at one of those Heater Body suits. $300 + the thing better air start me in the morning at that price.
  2. I'm type 1 insulin dependent and cold feet are always a problem I wear GI surplus Mickey Mouse boots. I have 2 pair. One is 2 sizes larger and I put a pair of 200 gram insulated liners in them for when it is very cold. I have the ones with the air valves to inlate while at altitude. I take a 5 foot section of aquarium tubing and fill them up with hit air. If my feet get cold it's too late. The Ice age is upon us. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/new-us-mickey-boots-with-valve-black.aspx?a=591923
  3. Clowns I can live with if they don't decide to stand on top of me. I'm just looking for some big woods solitude. I hunted in the Adirondaks in Herkimer County on private property that bordered state land. years ago. Got 7 'Yotes and one 5 point buck in 3 years. Are you required to park in the parking lots or can you pull off along side the road? Looking at maps and Sat pics I see a lot of Horse trails. I take it a lot of guys patrol those trails fearing they'll get lost if they strike out off trail.
  4. Substitute the value 20 for A and 90 for B. This would represent a hunter 20 feet above ground with a target 30 yards from the base of his tree. It is only 2 foot further.
  5. What is the time duration that the influence of gravity is imparted on the projectile?
  6. I was referring to the "height compensation" nonsense. Last I checked rangefinders are not permitted on 3D courses.
  7. Gimmic. Do the math. Unless your 150 feet above the ground level of your target it won't make a bit of difference. Just keep your bow arm straight and bend at the waist.
  8. I get on my PRC-25 and radio the fire base asking for an illumination round followed by 3 rounds of WP.
  9. Use a spit patch between every shot. tuck it in your cheek like a wad of chew then run it through the barrel once with a jag.Keep the jag attached to your ramrod and it'll give you something to grab on to. I use powerbelts in my MK-85 and patched round balls in my Hawken .54 and Jaeger .62. I only use Goex 2F in all of my BP weapons. Pyrodex may give you a few more shots between a serious cleaning at the range but I found it extremely corrosive as compared to Goex.
  10. I haven't hunted NY in 25 years. I have a place near Downsville that I use for fishing. Does anyone hunt or have any info on Bear Spring Mountain WMA? Hunting pressure? Clowns? etc.

  12. Having spent some time in Kansas, the locals had a method to determine if it was safe to go out. You crack open a window. Stick a 3 foot section of boiler pipe out. If it bends it's OK to go out. If it get's ripped out of your hand best stay inside till the wind lays down. Still hunt through the softwoods in the bottoms, sheltered gullies and on the lee side of a hill. A North wind blowing over the top of a ridgeline running East West will change direction and actually blow in the opposite direction, up hill on the lee side. deer use this to scent check below them while they lay down watching the ridgeline above them.
  13. That's a nice rack. And them antlers ain't to shabby either.
  14. I use the Jimmy Houston method. Grab him by the lower lip. Give him a kiss and then put him in the livewell.
  15. Kroil is also an excellent product to use. It's on the expensive side though. $15 for a 16 oz spray can.
  16. What percent of the "doe" harvest are comprised of button buck?
  17. When are doe fawn capable of entering estrous and be bred?
  18. OK, so we are to shoot all the doe fawns and button buck.
  19. 50% of a buck's genetic material is passed on to him from his mother. Show me what an inferior doe looks like and I'll make sure I shoot them first. AR is not about "growing" trophy buck. It's about permitting them to reach the next age class. A spike or small forkhorn that is given a pass his second hunting season is that much closer to reaching his potential. There are only three factors that determine a buck's potential. Age Nutrition and Genetics. In that order. As it is without AR, we are severely restricting a buck's potential by skewering the most important factor. The best genetics and food won't make B&C buck if you kill them as soon as they have 3" of bone sticking out of their head.
  20. Never ever use water to clean a rifle. You don't use it to clean centerfire rifles why would you use it to clean a blackpowder rifle. You will never get the water droplets out of the pores in the steel and it will rust. I've been using a solution called Moose Milk. It's very economical and has three components. It is equal parts of Murphy's Oil Soap, Hydrogen-peroxide, and rubbing alcohol 92% by volume. Plug up the nipple with a toothpick and fill the barrel with the solution and stand it in a bucket. It will fizzle and foam for about 30 minutes. Then empty it out and run a brass brush through the bore vigorously. Run several patches through the barrel. If it's still not clean as a whistle repeat the process.
  21. Wrong. The second thing that goes is your memory. I'll be damned if I can remember what that first thing was. --------------------------------------- Many years ago in Pennsylvania it was called "Legal Shooting Hours" which were 30 minutes prior to sunrise until sunset, adjusted to your longitude. Then in the early 90's it was changed to "Legal Hunting Hours" and the definition of hunting was expanded to include just about anything involving game animals or birds. Many a WCO took it upon himself/herself to issue citations to hunters coming out in the evening after "Legal Hunting Hours" This didn't sit well with hunters in Pennsylvania who already held little regard or respect for the WCO/DWCO. A number of groups spoke at the annual Game Commissioners meeting in January and asked why it was light enough to "shoot" 30 minutes before the sun comes up but not light enough to shoot 30 minutes after it sets. Some "expert" was brought in and he spent the better part of an hour babbling about pink light and indigo light and so on. Changes to the legal hunting hours were made about 5 years ago and we are now permitted to "hunt" from 30 minutes prior to sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset. I can remember as a young guy sitting in my stand listening to shots going off at 5:30 AM which is about an hour early. I always figured it was someone that left his weapon loaded since last year or just wanted to see if it works. Or, was using the vehicles lights to get "their" buck before someone else does.
  22. West Latitude has a - in front of it. East latitude has a + or nothing in front of it. Remind me not to ask you for fire support should I need it.
  23. Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable, safe, and incident free weekend. What'd ya' see? What'd ya get? I didn't get anything. I had to pay $50 and pick up the garbage.
  24. IT's 4:00 AM. Do you know where your buck is?
