Still thinking my 30-06 but i will propbably walk alot saturday so my mossberg 20gauge open sight may get put in its place. Guess ill decide when i wake up saturday morning.

Depends. Lease is any big doe or 6pt or better. Stateland it will depend on the situation. If i track one down,doing drives just get caught up in the action ill most likely take whatever is legal. But hoping to hold off for atleast a big body deer and 6pts or more.

The deer camp i used to go to had a huge flat top stove. People would bring venison,sausage,bacon,onions,peppers,mushrooms,mozz cheese, bunch of butter cook it up and serve it on sub rolls. Sorry mouths watering thinking of it. My go to bring is chili or one of my wifes dips.

Well. Yesterday i shot a doe shot looked good quartering away. Even saw it look like it wobbled when it got out to 100yrds. Gave it a good hr started tracking. The arrow stayed in her and about 50yrds into track it started pumping blood full of bubbles and pink colored, we found arrow where i last saw it and got about 18 inches went in.(could see it when it ran away the arrow went in deep).Was covered in blood no guts all lighter colored and so i kept going after 150-200 yrds of tracking with consistant blood it stopped with only 4 drops over last 75 yards. So me and friend decided to circle to see if we could catch it laying dead or cross more blood. Well 5mins into that i jumped it. Buddy saw her and confirmed it was her he saw blood on its side. Went back this morning 24hrs after hit looked all over. I about gave up figured ide swing around property in truck to see if i could see her in the fields. Crows gave her up had to be 20 in the trees around her. Found her in one of the meadows 200yrds from where we jumped her. She stunk yotes and crows got to her last night. Looked like i hit a little higher then i thought and caught one lung and did get more guts and liver then i first thought. Guess she was quarterd more then i thought. Shes hanging hoping meats still good i scrubbed her down and got rid of any meat the guts spilled on. Sorry no hero pics wanted to get her home and cleaned up just one of her hanging.

H&r 30-06. Didnt use it all last year because my dad used it. Its my go to stand and walking gun.

Yea i agree thats why ill do it during bow they tend to get up and sneak out just doing the wind. Ive had to kick brush piles to get does to move during gun. It also lets the shooters get an easier shot. Only do it 2 or 3 time during bow thats it.

Pretty much a drive except you walk around the bedding areas instead of going in and let your scent go down into it. Gets the deer to move slowly out of their beds and dont come out at 100mph.

Bear charge only came off the bottom some how. That was my first thought was oh crap my weekends over. I figured ide try it to see if it worked and it did im not going to question it.

Best day in a long time just wish i had that doe hanging but crap happends. And bows still good to go for am shot it at home again to make sure.

Last ones a brute

Ganna be a long post. Well it started fast and ended fast with an oops in the middle. I cant sit long in the cold we had this morning so me and a buddy did some wind bumps on stateland. Came to first spot and saw a big 8 working his way through so i dropped buddy off and tried to get around on him hoping he would cruise by one of us. He ended up going onto neighbors with a doe past my friend. Heading to spot 2 we spotted a monster 8 crossing onto stateland. Never saw him again after we tried to get around him. Went and scouted a couple spots for opener. We decided to sit for 2.5 hrs around 9. I had a lone unknown go through around 10 it ended up by friend turned out to be a 4pt. 1130 we headed out because we wanted to hit up my lease. Did a spot and stalk on a small doe. Wind shifted right before it got in my friends shooting lane i was trying to get the kill on camera. Lease: this is where it got bad before the good. So i forgot my pack at home and wad carrying rattling horns over my shoulder. Get to my stand and i hear a deer blowing. My friend jumped it going into another stand. It comes flying up to me to 8 yards i make sure horns are out of my way and release the arrow and kaboom arrow slams into the ground horns smack my face bust my fingers up. Look at the bow,string came off the cam moved the dloop and what im most grateful for it a was clean. So i draw bow to get my string back on bottom cam slide loop back,check for any breaks,get my small game arrow out and shoot a stump. bows shooting good like nothing happened. All i can think is that in the rush of it the horns slid down and in the way of the strings path. Then i forget my pull up rope so i had to tie my belt to bow and climbing harness. Get setup yep there goes the release out of the tree. Text my buddy my fun and said a 12 better come through now. Well it gor better 230 had a button buck work 70yrds from me and into the meadow. 3 i look at the other end of meadow i see a doe walking past another stand(one told my friend to sit in.lol). 330 another one pops out. 340 that doe spooks over above me which is when the bb went out of field. So i decided to hit horns and here comes 2 looked like doe and buck. Get eyes on the big body and holy crap its my target buck. So i grunt at him and he postures walked over to a tree completely destroys it and makes a scrape. I grunt again and he starts posturing towards me then stops and takes off up the hill(guessing he had a doe,he stopped and was looking before) because i finally spot other deer he was with its a spike. As i getting down another doe comes in and jump another doe. Be back in the stand in am. Sorry forong post it was a busy day. Congrats to anybody who took one today havent read through to check.

I agree the vest has me interested. My friend usually ground hunts he sticks it under his chair and puts a blanket on his lap and he says it traps the heat good and keeps him warm.

It was weird i tend to stay warm. I have decent base layers but my pants have seen better days so im buying bibs tonight and the jacket thats supposed to be a wind breaker was not.

My friend used one last year and swears by it. I was trying to figure a way today while shivering to attach one to my treestand. Lol

Had fawn watch me put up stand and jumped a monster doe in a spot ive never seen them bed on the way to put that stand up. I need to get bibs or something its sad when feet and hands stay warm but my legs and chest froze. I dont get cold easily but that wind killed me this am. Congrats to those that punched a tag ill be back out in am.

2hrs 45 mins then no work for 4 days. Cant wait to get in my stand.

Be out in the morning to start my 4 day vacation. Sitting until 130 tomorrow. Hoping someone makes a quick stop by the stand in the morning. I have to put a stand up at some point tomorrow also. Good luck mike. The cold should help. Dont beat yourself up to bad. All you can do is try to learn for the next one. My last couple years have been rough also.
