  1. I've ran into this problem before i took the stand down and left it at the base of the tree it was gone within a couple days. Just make sure you check your stands though because 2 of our ladder stands had the straps at the top cut in half. Couldnt prove who did it but had an idea. Theres no respect for property lines anymore. Good luck to you.
  2. I did throw and grow so I mowed and weedwacked it as low as possible. Raked up extra weeds/brush then set tiller on highest setting (tons of rocks) and just went over it a bunch of times. Picked the rocks and threw seed and fertilizer down. But i dont know how it will work never did it this way before. Good luck.
  3. Dad and a cousin, just grew up in it helping drag deer out to wrapping them up. Started young and now ive started my 6 month old son on it.
  4. I was amazed by how much larger the area looks with all the weeds knocked down. And yes i am already thinking about putting another one in this year. If i can get the time.
  5. Been on this lease 5 years now only had one little plot at edge of cornfield that brought deer in(2 years ago). Finally had time to get 2 in. one is tiny the other is a good size for the property. Not done yet half of bigger one will get a winner food source just not sure what yet. First 2 are the befores. They both are a clover heavy, brassica based. Doesnt work still have time to till up and try something different. The big ones lined with black berry plants and apple trees.
  6. Use mine just to see whats running around on my lease. I also like to use them on stateland i've never hunted to make sure im in a descent spot. Plus the land owners like to see the animals they have running around and they like to make sure know one is tresspassing while im not there.
  7. I know what you mean drove past my parents road a couple times today and seems to be taller there everytime i went past.
  8. Seems like most have their goals pretty well set. Best of luck to eveyone in trying to accomplish them. Had one more to add for myself i have a big doe, never has a fawn with it i call her black stripe( she has a 2 inch wide black mark from back of her head to her tail) we've had numerous encounters and she has one all including when she ducked my arrow 2 years ago. She makes it through this season i'm giving her a pass from here on out.
  9. I know its still a little bit away but what goals do you have for the season? Hunt with a certain friend/family, spot, new state, new gun, certain buck? 1) help daughter get her first 2)friend was in serious accident hoping hes healthy enough we can get him out this year. 3)Ide like to be able to get 2 bucks any size in a year, never was able to get one during bow and gun in same year.
  10. I agree with nycredneck, just depends on the challenge you want to have. I give a lot of credit to those that can shoot traitional equipment. But go shoot a little of everything you'll find what you like. I'll tell you i prefer bowhunting over gun.
  11. Same here. Im a fan of the old school way of playing. Catcher in the way lay them out, slide spikes up, my favorite is the little chin music just to remind the batter whos plate it was.
  12. Thank you to those who gave their lives so we can keep our freedom. Thank you to the ones that continue to fight for our freedom. Just came back from our towns ceremony and my daughters broke down because it finally hit them what this day means.
  13. So ive heard about this organization that gets kids out shooting archery. Scholastic 3d archery. I was at my kids school today and saw a flier stating that there will be a meeting at the oxford rod and gun club May 31st from 6pm to 8pm. I will be taking my daughters and trying to get my buddies to take there kids. Has anybody helped out with it, heard about it, or been to any meetings? I'm hoping i can become a volunteer. www.s3da.org i belive this is the website
  14. So cool, wish i could see some in my hunting area.
  15. Thanks again for all the info. I have a better idea on the direction we need to look now. Good ideas both ways so i guess all we have left to do is go shoot a couple styles some of you mentioned along with fingers and see what works best. Even got some ideas for myself since I was thinking of switching as well. Let everyone know hopefully in a week or so what weve come up with.
  16. Thanks guys. Will run those ideas past her.
  17. My oldest daughter is 11 and she wants to shoot archery. She has a 2 year old missions bow setup with a d-loop so she can use a release. She can draw bow back fine with her fingers but struggles with a release. Only tried the wrist style release. Is there a release to help with this? Should i promote her shooting fingers? I know its a preference from person to person shes just starting to get frustrated. Just trying to get her some extra options. Thanks.
  18. Hi hows it going. Just a little about myself I'm mainly into deer hunting but my father got me hooked on grouse early on. Been blessed with kids that love the outdoors and a wife that encourages it as much as i do. I've been following this site for awhile and decided it was time to join. Can't wait to get into some coversations and here more of that great advice I've read over the last couple months.
