Although more deer didn't hit the ground you guys had a great morning out. Congrats on your deer!! I wish I could have made it out this weekend. The deer have been on the move this past week.

My friend's son shot this 8 pointer this morning in Bethel. The buck was with 7 does an a 13 point buck that they know of. He coudn't get a clean shot at the 13 and shot the 8 before the deer all walked out of sight. He and his dad tracked the buck for 2.5 hours before finishing him off with another shot. His first shot was in the hind quarter but perseverance and dedication to finding him paid off. Congrats on a nice buck buddy!!

A friend just called me from upstate to tell me that his son shot an 8 pointer this morning. The buck was with seven does and a big 13 pointer that they know of. Unfortunately for his son the big 13 never presented a shot before they would have all been out of sight. Can't complain too much about an 8 this late in the season though. Congrats to him!!

Here's a trail cam pic from a couple of years back of a nice 8 point on our property and one of another big buck.

Here's my hunting partner with his buck from 2008. He grossed 149" and netted 136' P&Y TYpical. He was taken about a mile away from where my buck was taken. You guessed it...not photoshopped!!

Here's a pic of the buck I took in 2003 in the same area. He grossed 178" and netted 167" P&Y Typical. He has 17 points of which 14 are scorable. It's not photoshopped!!

With all do respect you don't even know me and for you to call me a faker and a cheat is totally uncalled for and inappropriate. However from your posts I can tell and have every right to call you ignorant and jealous. I also don't need your "Good Luck" for next seaosn with that deer nor would I accept in good faith. You can take your sarcasm and skepticism and shove it. The only thing that matters here is that I and my hunting partners know that the buck exists and will take lots of pleasure trying to outsmart him next season. Have a Merry Christmas Mr.Scrooge!!

Geno. I didn't get a chance to see the deer and I was told that he had stickers coming off the bottom of the main beams. I'm going by what I was told by him. Either way it's a great buck!!

That's a stud of a buck!!

The deer was taken on 12-5-10 by my buddy on his land in Cortland county. He's a 13 pointer with lots of mass and a very unique rack. I've personally have never seen such unique main beams on a buck. The pic doesn't show it but the right main beam is exactly like the left in shape, sort of a scoop or shovel shape if you will.

Good luck finding a site where nobody disagrees, ever lol. While I dont agree with erussell on this one, questioning things is not a bad thing and is part of life. WNY, I agree with questioning being a part of life, however I don't see a question mark at the end of his statement. Which leads me and others to believe that he's just envoking his opinion, which is wrong. Usually comments like that lead me to believe that the person making them is ignorant or jealous...or both!! My buddy, who took the pic, happened to be doing some scouting when he saw the bucks rack sticking up over the soybeans as he was bedded in them. When he got a little to close the buck jumped up and ran off and that's when he snapped the pic with his cell phone. He's one of a handful of good bucks in the area and I hope I can get a crack at him next season. Thanks to those of you that can appreciate this great buck for what he is!!

Discussions are good.... :

I can assure you that it's not photoshopped. The pic was taken by my friend who lives out there with his cell phone and thus it's not the best of quality. But I thank you for your idiotic post. I posted the pic because I thought that it would be appreciated but I guess I was mistaken. I hope some of you did.

I did notice that the success rate on the filled permits is low, however we can't forget that these are just the reported ones. Who knows how many deer are actually killed every year? Be it hunters, predators, accidents or enviromental. Hopefully the winter won't be too bad this year and the deer will come through in good shape. I know by me we could really use a good crop of fawns over the next year or two.

Thanks for the info WNY. The DEC's practices in managing the deer herd are very questionable. They have traditionally given out large numbers of DMP's to control the herd and now they've done a complete reversal by issuing lower numbers in areas that have been hit hard with substantially lower deer numbers. They really need to listen more to hunters on our observations in the field.

This is a big 10 pointer that's still running around on the property I hunt in IL. He was seen the other night again by my friend out there. Hoping he survives till next year because I would like to put an arrow in him. This pic was taken in September right near my stand.

2010 Deer Harvest Thread - Post your Pics and Success Stories!
letinmfly replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Not much of a story to tell. I shot this spike on the first Saturday of the regular season. It wound being the only deer I saw in 9 days of hunting this season. When I saw the deer I literally had 2-3 seconds to get him in the scope and make the shot. Fortunately I was able to do so and my trusted Kimber 84M in 7mm-08 did it's job. In the pic is my eldest nephew who has been sitting with me on stand the last 4 years and each time I harvested a buck. Guess he's my good luck charm. -
Long Island Gun Season got my drawing number
letinmfly replied to longislandhunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Depending on which piece of peroperty you'll be hunting that number will get you hunting on either the first or second day of the season. -
An ECO told me that if an animal, ( deer, bear, etc.), can eat the product it can't be used cause it's considered baiting.

Congrats Vince!! The guy in Roscoe, Decker's I believe, charged my uncle $250 to buthcer his bear three years ago. You're getting a bargain. ;D That rug is going to like nice along with the skull. My uncle did a shoulder mount but didn't want the skull. I had the skull sent to a Dermestid beetle box and cleaned up to keep as a momento of the first bear taken on my place.

Congrats on the bears guys!!

So what are your opinions? Should they be allowed to do this in defense of landowner's rights and free enterprise? Or should the DEC step in and limit how many deer can be taken off a private property in during a season? Legally they're allowed to do it but that doesn't mean that I personally care for it. The DEC really doesn't care if all the deer were killed on that property. The deer herd has taken a serious blow due to the DEC's mismanagement of the herd. IMO The deer numbers in my area are at an all time low and I mostly blame the DEC and their DMP allotments. I know that there are other factors such as enviromental and predatorial but the number of does killed by hunters is more to blame. I can remember some years back readint that our herd was estimated to be around 750,000 strong and that season the DEC issued 1.1 milliom DMP's. The numbers just don't make sense. I know that not all hunters are successful at filling their tags and they were playing the odds...but it sure sounds like a case of the DEC wanting the deer eradicated!! >
