  1. Post a pic of that bad boy!!
  2. They are a little intimidating when you see them but they are magnificent. I saw seven different bears last May while turkey hunting.
  3. Geno. Don't get fixated on Pike county only. Great bucks come from all across the state. Pike county definitely has the reputation and also the highest number of hunters. Don't overlook southern IL as there are some real monsters coming from that area. Good luck!!
  4. Looks good!! Tuck in the hair, using the back edge of a knife, all the way around the back of the deer. It'll give it a better/neater look. IMO
  5. Congrats Tom!!! I was happy to be there with you on that second kill!! Looking forward to doing it again this spring. Lets try and avoid the rattlesnake's this year!!!!
  6. nyantler you're ight. Shopping for price instead of quality will surely lead to disappointment.
  7. Just asking a question. Guess his attitude cost him a customer. My friend is a taxidermist and sometimes I sit in his shop with him. I've seen business dealings first hand and I can honestly say it's not only the taxidermist that has an attitude.
  8. Why would you expect a discount? Just think how many times he must hear the same thing from his customers.
  9. I think that the problem is complacency and being too comfortable in what they think they know. I guarantee you that 90% of those over 50 haven't looked at a game regulation in over 10 years. Thus creating the problem by not being up on any changes in regulations, which in turn becomes a violation.
  10. It's in splitG2 post but here's the link... http://skinnymoose.com/moosedroppings/2009/04/08/thompson-center-ceo-pro-hunter-greg-ritz-tied-to-kentucky-game-violations/
  11. The only contest I enter is the one between me and the deer I'm chasing. These prize contests seem to take the enjoyment out of hunting altogether. Most guys are all happy to enter a buck they shot and they're proud of it until someone shows up with a bigger buck.
  12. Matt. If the deer have been eating corn the whole time it wouldn't matter. The problem occurs when corn is suddenly introduced to them as a supplement. Their digestive tract doesn't catch up quick enough to properly digest the corn and thus the results can be detrimental. Being that feeding is illegal in NY we don't need to worry about it. When it was still legal to feed the deer I would buy the deer feed that was sold at Agway. It had a good blend of oats, grains, corn and molasses. It wasn't unusual for me to put out 2-3 thousand pounds of food in the winter and I would stop feeding them the end of March.

  14. If you're feeling a bit bored try this game. It's even more fun if you miss!! ;D http://crass.on.ru/flash/aaa-1.html
  15. I especially like when a hunter(s) walk by your stand. They don't know you're there and then when they see you instead of walking away they stop and ask "did you see anything?" Are you kidding me??? Even better is when they see you and keep coming closer and than ask!!! To top things off I'm hunting private land!!! > I would have to say the worst had to be when you're spring turkey hunting. There you are working a bird and he's gobbling his head off coming to you. Next thing you know the bird shuts up or takes off like a bat out of hell. You sit there scratching your head when you see another hunter who was sneaking up on the bird because he heard the bird gobble. I can understand it happening on state land but on private land it really erks me!! Not so much that the bird left but rather that it becomes a dangerous situation.
  16. My biggest buck, shot in IL, field dressed around 250-260lbs and me and my partner had all to do to drag him to a spot where we could drive the vehicle to and load him up. We dragged him before dressing him out as not to leave the entrails in the middle of the field. So figure he was around 320lbs live weight. There was nothing fun about dragging that one as the field where he died in was muddy and slick!! Only the consolation of him coming back to NY on the back of my truck kept us going.
  17. You believing that you're the deer explains a lot!! I guess I don't need to say anymore. Guess we've all been wasting our breaths. Have a nice life!!!
  18. Pat. For the record my name is letinmfly. Secondly I'm not claiming to be wiser than others, I just answered your questions as to how I feel. You chose to attack me by making jest of my username which I find uncalled for. Thus my response can be read below.... The way you keep posting has led me to believe that you might be one of the two idiots in that video!! If not one of them than just another!!
  19. Pat. This had nothing to do with cityboys or countryfolk. Stop trying to stir up more crap. I answered your questions but obviously you didn't bother reading my posts.. Go back and read posts number 112 and 117 on page 8.
  20. I hunted in Sullivan county in the town of Lumberland. I've been told that the area holds a lot of Timber Rattlers and that there are two known T.R. snake dens in the area. Needless to say I'm looking to get some snake boots for this spring. ;D
  21. I purchased this one for my nephew and he really likes the gun. I've also shot it and it's very accurate and there doesn't seem to be any issues with the shells feeding and ejecting properly. I believe it was just over $200. http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/BoltAction22/925.asp
  22. We have winter and we have snakes!! I hate snakes and of course I had to run across a 4.5' Timber Rattler last May while turkey hunting. :-\
  23. That scheduled the spring turkey Youth Hunt on Easter weekend? > I had planned to take my nephew upstate the entire weekend but now we have to be home for the holiday on Sunday. Even if he was to get a bird on Saturday I would have liked to have stayed and taken him fishing on Sunday. I really hope the weather is good on that Saturday. What a bummer!!!
