  1. You're almost a stone's throw away from where I hunt. I hunt in Christian county.
  2. Or you can drive out there with your own vehicle. That's what me and my partner do. That way we know everything that we take is making it out there with us. Swain, where are you located in IL?
  3. I'm not sure about NY state laws on selling mounted animals, horns, etc. First thing I would do is check with the DEC as to what the laws are regarding the sale of such items.
  4. I often wonder how many "wives" take a buck to get a buck and then the old man's tag is used if a good one comes by. I can remember when I first started deer hunting, some 30 years ago. The DMP application needed 2-4 hunters per party permit. At that time we had my mother get her license just so we could use her DMP stub on the application just to try and get a party permit. We never used her license to actually fill a tag in her name. It was worth spending, I believe back then, the $8 for her big game license just for the party permit.
  5. I saw 7 last spring alone while turkey hunting. Place is infested with them.
  6. Saw this posted on another site and figured you'd like to see it. It says it was taken in Wisconsin.
  7. Got 20" here last night on LI. I also heard we're getting more next week as well as maybe this weekend. :'( There's no more room to put it anywhere!! >
  8. So how's everyone enjoying the snow? : Thank goodness there's only 53 days left of winter!!! ???
  9. Thanks for looking! http://shop.ebay.com/rosalie327/m.html
  10. I'm going to try and make it down there. All depends on the weather and funds.
  11. I really enjoy hunting and fishing, so I will pay whatever the fees are for me to be able to do it. These are my vices and thus I won't give them up.
  12. I shoot a Mossberg 835 with the factory Turkey choke. I shoot Winchester Supreme 3" #5's.
  13. The reason for that it so that the hens can sit on their nests without being disturbed by human intrusion. Thus trying to preserve a good hatch.
  14. I would like to see an earlier opening day for spring season. Mid April would be a good time. IMO
  15. Geno. We saw him on quite a few occasions and you just get to know them by sight after a while. The area we haunted was his core area and he was king of the woods. He was a fighter as was seen by his weight of only 13 lbs. He ran himself ragged protecting his area and keeping his harem to himself.
  16. That's not true. My friend is a taxidermist and it all depends on when capes go out to the tannery and when they get back from the tannery. It also depends on the individual taxidermist's schedule. They don't just work on deer heads all the time. They'll switch things around just not to be doing only one species or mount all the time. I've had deer head mounts back in 2 months and they all look good. Sounds like your taxidermist just told you that to give himself leeway in returning customers work, and there's nothing wrong with giving yourself a little cushion.
  17. He was definitely a challenge and I'm glad I was able to finally put my tag on him. I'm thinking he was at least a 3 year old and more likely a 4 year old bird. It was extra special being that he was a state land bird and that my good friend was with me when I got him.
  18. That gets the ole blood pumping!!
  19. Sneaky Pete was an appropriate name for this wise old tom and it was given to him by BigTom. He earned his name because whenever we would head off into the woods away from the vehicle Sneaky Pete would come out and hang out by the vehicle!! This morning started off very quiet as the fog rolled in and out. After a couple of hours of deafening silence on our first setup we decided to make a move. On the way back to the car we made two stops and made a few calls. On the second stop as Tom made a call on his Firewood Boxcall, Sneaky Pete cut him right off!! We quickly setup and a couple of more calls on the boxcall and Sneaky had crossed the road to our side and gobbled a couple of more times. Shortly thereafter 5 hens came to the edge of the woodlot and Sneaky snuck out the back door on us!! The hens stayed there for about 10 minutes and all of a sudden the lead hen started cuttin in an attempt to find the "hen" that called to them and Sneaky. That's when Sneaky Pete decided to do an about face and come back towards us. When he got within range it was time to shoot and my shot was true!! The shot was approximately 35 yards and Sneaky Pete was down!!! The season had worn him down badly. He weighed 13 lbs!! He had spurs of 1.25" and a broken off spur of 1", with a beard length f 10.25". I wound up killing him in the same exact spot where I took my tom last season!! All in all my season was filled with aggrevation, from other hunters, and sheer enjoyment from chasing these "dumb" birds. : I had a great time hunting with my good friend BigTom and was afforded great hospitality by him and his family. Thanks Tom!!! Looking forward to this season!! The boxcall is one that Tom made which attributed to Sneaky's demise!! Sorry for my doofy look...it's a combination of happiness and sheer tiredness!! ??? http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t192/letinmfly/100_0702.jpg[/img] http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t192/letinmfly/100_0703.jpg[/img] http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t192/letinmfly/100_0704.jpg[/img]
  20. We've gotten too much snow already!! I hear we're expecting another storm on Tuesday of next week!! ???
  21. He's a nice buck!! What's the spread and where did you get him?
  22. Geno. Did you get that buck aged? By the looks of the "stubby" points I owuld think he was a pretty old deer. However, the looks of the cape/face doesn't suggest it.
