  1. you will have to shoot with a lazer tag gun, if the alarm goes off it means you got the deer and the DEC gives you a coupon for 5 pounds of veggie burgers at Walmart !
  2. have thought about those climbers , but they scare me a little and im a big guy. Got a buddy that swears by them too. Anyone ever try the tripods?
  3. whats your favorite trail cam pic? These are my two- love the one of the bucks in velvet! The other one is a buck staring directly towards my treestand about 100 yards away and I was hunting that day and prob getting down to leave just then .... love and hate that pic!
  4. I would just suggest stay away from diesel. The new emissions, low sulfur fuel and DEF additives, they dont last or run like they used to. Everyone is running from them, even school districts are trying to get away from diesels with gas or even propane. Have owned Dodge,Ford,Chevy,Nissan.... Best trucks ever owned were the Nissan Frontiers. Have had one for 11 years and the current one for 6, never have a problem with them. Fords at work have a few front end, tie rod, bearing issues esp on the 350's but usually reliable. F150 is certainly a quality truck, dunno bout that aluminum bed though. Have heard with the aluminum floors in other vehicles have been an issue, they might be too soft for a truck bed. Might not rot out but might be banged up bad in a truck bed.
  5. one time a guy that works for me was driving and reported that he saw some deer with crazy looking horns . A farm had lost some fallow deer they were raising and they were running across a field. They did actually catch them though. And 2 years ago in Munnsville in Madison county a guy shot a buffalo. It got loose from a ranch and no one could catch it. Was around for months and on/off different farms in the area. So a couple guys asked DEC if they could take it if they had the chance and they dropped it in deer season. it was in the paper. Guess you never know what your going to see.....
  6. anyone ever see any wild pigs they always talk about being around?
  7. i caught a clearance sale on walmart website 2 year ago's for some nice ladder stands with the rails for $45 we bought 4 and they were sold out in a week. But I always check every spring to see if they are on sale ago..
  8. there is a field that neighbors where i hunt that is only prob 7-8 acres and they have 6 treestands on it - wow. Hunting from the ground is def fun, but a lot of the land I hunt is fields so no cover to work with.
  9. love that im not the only one! Am putting up the new one this weekend cause I cant wait. Always wonder if I have too many for the acreage but I figure it depends on the conditions and trails etc
  10. it was a fox hunt , with horses etc. But there were a lot of beagles and foxhounds there. Mustve been like 100 dogs cause they were switching them out and had trucks following with kennels. The dogs were awesome
  11. How many treestands do you have up and what size of property? Seems like I add stands every year and always want one more. Just want to be sure I'm not addicted! lol 10 stands - 7 of them shared with one other person on 120 acres, 2 on about 50 acres and 1 on 9 acres (new this year). I love the ladder stands!
  12. i went to one in deansboro like 3 years ago. Laura Hand from channel 3 news was there riding in it as well. I dont know the name of the group or if they were just using the land but it was pretty neat. Not in Madison county but it was right near the county line. We went just to check it out. Wish I had more info for you but I think the landowners were at the Zombeck farm in deansboro.
  13. Some of the best times to hunt are during the bow season. Pre rut and rut are usually right at the end so have to be in the woods for that! oct 25-Nov to gun opener is when i see the most buck activity. Can only use a bow or crossbow (last 2 weeks) then. But the warmer weather, the fact that i cant wait any longer to hunt, and more time in the stand, .......gotta bow hunt. And i see way more deer in bow season! I do a DEC bow hunting survey every year and I generally see 5X as many deer in bow season. And they are much more relaxed, a lot of the gun season deer are kicked up and on the run from neighbor hunters. To extend hunt season i am even gonna try early bear season this year. And an out of state pig hunt next year!
  14. i have several Bushnell Banners cause i like the circle reticle on them. Havent had any problems with them on a 220 savage, 30-06, .50 cal, 30/30, They usually run $100
  15. i have a buddy of mine that has on trailcam and has seen himself two sets of twin bear cubs and two mothers in his backyard. And he is a bit nervous about sneaking into his favorite deer stands this fall in the dark. If i were him i would carry for sure. That pistol def makes more noise !
  16. usually 3-4 weeks. Start putting them in mid july, then 1st of sept leave them til hunting season. I dont usually put them too close to my stands so I don't keep going too close to hunt area and blow out deer. But on land i hunt a lot already, know where i am gonna hunt, just like to know whats out there. On new ground i will move them every 2-3 weeks to help figure out where to start hunting.
  17. am sure its because people would be tempted to use their 357 instead of the bow then jab an arrow in the hole! Love people.
  18. have gotten done from treestand after it got dark and had coyotes yipping and howling all around me. Wouldve liked to been able to carry if they got too close.
  19. if you have a kitchen aid mixer , there is a meat grinder and sausage making attachment that works great! The attachments are less than $50. I make a lot of bulk sausage and made venison jalepeno brats last year and they were awesome. I get casings packed in salt at local grocery store - Price Chopper and only rinse them for a few minutes and it works great.
