  1. Not the point of can it kill the point is some crossbow bow companys don't offer the bow you want in 200ib because to get the same speed you do from there models (recurves ) you need more draw weight to = the same speed level as a compound crossbow at 200ib The cams gives you a mechanical advantage at the same 200ib That a recurve crossbow can only get with more poundage.
  2. It is like that for airguns. The limit is 600 fps . You have one that is rated less by manufacturer it's illegal if it' rated 600 fps or better it's legal end of story . As far as the law is concerned . What it acually does exactly is the responsibility of the manufacturer to get it right . not the owner he's just going by what the manufacturer tells him and the DEC same thing .
  3. Not your responsibility the manufacturer rates them for a certain speed and that's what it is legally as far as dec is concerned.
  4. All I know is a recurve crossbow needs more draw weight to get the same speeds of a compound crossbow . So how is it that they both have the same 200 ib limit ? Does not make sense at least with speed what ever the manufacturer States the speed is that's what it is .even if its not if you know what I mean .
  5. (Why does military not carry .22 ) because the milatery has Logistics a supply chain to get more ammo to front line troops that single person will not have in a SHTF scenario . If your on your own no vehicle on foot with no way to resupply carrying lighter and more ammo probably more beneficial to you then carrying more bulky powerful ammo. That is not as big of a problem for a army with a supply chain so they can afford to use bigger more powerful ammo . Plus there objectives are little bit different than just survival. They did issue ar7 in 22 to pilots for survival.
  6. Yea but why limb width limit ?that has nothing to do with power ,Crazy rule and if they want to limit something and make it fair . do it by speed of arrow not by draw weight .
  7. Depending on you experience most people Because of no real felt kick someone with a 22 lr in theory probably shoot off a dozen well placed shot faster on target then you could with a bigger cal that kicks you around when you shoot it . Getting hit with 2 or 3 4 5 well placed 22 rounds probable worse then getting hit with one bad place shot from a bigger gun it equals bad news for who ever gets hit by them both .. With a 22 You can easily shoot off 3 or more well placed shots faster then and more accurately then anything else. . Moral of the story is you don't want to get shot by anything lol and nobody looks at the cal you got when you point a gun at them or are shooting at them .
  8. I like the idea of a 9mm carbine to the M1 carbine is also a really good choice.
  9. Do you really think the criminals in hood know the difference between various 22lr ammo or are picky about what they use . The guy worrying about holes in his jacket are getting shot with subsonic ammo probably .:)
  10. Yep i have even read that in Africa poachers have been know to kill cape Buffalo and even elephants with a well placed headshot to the weak spot of its skull . I don't know if those storys are true or not could be myth but from 25 yards some one who knows the weak spots of those animals probably could kill them with high velocity 22LR ammo. I would not want to be the one to try that experiment lol
  11. Check out the video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OW-5TO95aio They use a special high pressre pump or scuba tank to fill like the old crossmen pump guns but on steroids . I use the pump to fill mine get about 40 shots per fill on the one a I got . It is kinda of expensive hobby to get into but it is worth it if you like to shoot a lot in doors or in the back yard or back country even with the light ones like that model .
  12. I got one of these it is a blast to shoot https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OW-5TO95aio
  13. Personally if you know your going to be using it a lot and don't mind spending the money a multi shot pcp airgun are a whole lot of fun to shoot and more accurate.
  14. I think if you are using the high velocity rounds in your Ruger 22lr or or some other carbine in say 45 9 mm the benefit of being able to carry more rounds probably out weights the usefulness of more powerful ammo for the most part especially if you know your going be away from being able to get more ammo for a long time . Sure if you know your going to be able to get more ammo easily hard to beat something like a .223 or 7.62×39 platform . But militarys they have systems in place to resupply troops . Different situation if you're on your own with no structure like armies have in place to resupply. May be more practical to have lighter ammo like 22 or more compact ammo like 9 or 45 then a rifle cartridge.
  15. It is more the limb width limit that bothers me the most. And in my opinion you take the least inexpensive crossbow up against the most expsive that is out there and the difference of what the effective pratical range on deer from the 2 is probably know more then 10 yards maybe a little more but nothing that Extreme as people think. Archery is all about accuracy really .
  16. I am large guy with hunting jacket does not effect me at all I shoot 12ga 3 inch now i have for the past 25 years .
  17. Yea but back then The English king at that time made them train every day from childhood the draw weight on those long bows found at those battle fields were all 80 to 130 ib . And they use to fire a huge amounts of arrows all at one time into Columns of men . That is a totally different scenario than one guy trying to survive on his own and for most guys being able to turn a bow into a crossbow if you can makes sense because most people will shoot it more accurately .
  18. Yes but a lot of the better newer models are more then 200ib in recurve design.
  19. They go by what ever the manufacturer rates them at, if your gun says 600 fps on the box in the spec sheet from the manufacturer that is all that matters .
  20. Maybe Keep those superlite pellets handy just in case though
  21. Nope for deer hunting I never put more then 2 or 3 in the gun anyway . In 25 years only had 1 not cycle and that one it was the rim that was dented . Not the gun . Since then I look inspect and make sure there are no dents on the rim if i see them I load that one round in the chamber not the mag tube. And they work fine anyway Usally save those for target practice some times they get dented up loading and unloading rounds. During deer season you know how that goes . Anyway doing that I never had a problem again.
