If you like I can take you a picture of me standing within 20 feet of a deer in a park near me in the burbs . And the deer will not even move .

Here is a perfect example of what I'm talking about I would like buy this 260ib recurve crossbow its not that powerful compared to a lot of the compound crossbow that are 200 ib but because of that dumb law I cant legally hunt with it . Even though the power is just average MICRO 315 Velocity 315 FPS Cocking Effort 130 Draw Weight (LB) 260 Mass Weight 5.2 Arrow Length 16.5 Arrow Weight min 350gr Stock Type Feather-Lite

I was never a big fan of expensive scopes as long as it is weather proof holds 0 . Why pay hundreds more for tiny little more Clarity in glass Unless your planing on shooting in the Olympics makes no sense to me .
-
What model did you get? Ok never mind I see it now
-
I just looked that gun is rated at 600 fps so it would be legal as far as DEC is concerned they go by factory specs . Legally Not your responsibility to figure out the actual speed. That is the job of the factory .

I am know expert but I think most breeds devoped in cold climates and if not brought up indoors have know trouble living in the cold just like wolfs foxes and coyotes do . I think people spoil them .

I found this article about it New York Residents to Face Stiff Penalties for Leaving Dogs in the Cold http://www.lifewithdogs.tv/2016/01/new-york-residents-to-face-stiff-penalties-for-leaving-dogs-in-the-cold/

You got wild cats all over the place and even wild dogs which are genetically almost the same as wolfs which live fine outdoors . But I really don't know. Just saying seemed like someone in the city over reacted to something that to the dog was no big deal . The news report which I missed part of said he got in trouble for just leaving the dog out for a few hours . Not even over night . Not sure what fine he got for it exactly missed that part. I know its heat that can kill them never heard dogs having a problem in cold .

I think it would take more then a letter for them to do anything you need a lobbyst

The point is you can easily get a compound to be more powerful even if you limit the poundage because it uses cams . So they go faster anyway your not limting anything except recurves with that law
-
Ok got you did not read all of the thread

Don't get these guys that go and take the risk of hunting illegally want meat go to supermarket want just a huge rack just buy one off the internet or go hunt a high fence if you don't want to hunt for one legally what are these guys trying to prove.

Depending where you are a lot of those burbs deer lost there fear of man and really don't make much of a challenge they don't even move when you get within 30 feet of them in some of those places .

Saw something about dog in NYC owner getting in trouble for keeping dog out in this cold. . So my question is don't some people keep there dogs outside in a dog house upstate all year round or Do they bring them in when it gets to cold ? Does it depend on the breed . Just wondering .

As a hunter you should always go with the weapon that you relatively are acurate with and with the most power that you can shoot ,then factor In every thing else like weight and portability. The hilljack in the video did it wrong in so many ways . Starting with the cal and ending with a short barrel pistol like that. He may as well have throne a brick .
-
Apples to oranges when you're comparing compound crossbows to recurve crossbow
-
Yea I was thinking the same . Title of that video should be maybe next time buy a bigger gun but I try not to judge
-
Saw this video interesting to see how others hunt not sure I would hunt with such a small caliber especially in a pistol maybe rifle. https://youtu.be/UVByEpjecE8

It is legal to bait In Ohio ,new York it is NOT .so here you probably not going to have same results .
-
Because there not limiting power or speed there limited what type of crossbow you can buy with that dumb 200 ib law . Compounds crossbows get around it by using better and better cams and mechanical advantage. The law is only limiting recurve crossbows like Excalibur models , mean while they can make a compound crossbow shoot way faster past any recurve even if the recurve is over 200 ib . The law does not do what it was intended to do.
-
Yep and what ever = the same power out put for crossbow is , should be the same limit ,(if your going to have a limit ) that is why they should do it by speed or foot pounds of energy . Not this crazy limb width and 200ib limit bs

Best survival rifle ever made

I know thats why they down sized from 30_06 ammo and it is even more of a issue when you are on your own with no suply chain to rely on thus a 22 lr and hand gun ammo becomes even more attractive to preppers / survivalist. Who plan for those end of times scenarios -
Really to be fair the limit should be by speed or foot pounds of energy . If they don't want bow or crossbow technology to get to powerful or = to each other . And they should probably just add everything other then gun in one season that can kill a deer ethically . Instead of all these limits on single shot weapons with limited range cabilitys.
