  1. Geno, I think you have more than a few hundred bucks in material alone. Not counting delivery and installation. Call a local excavator they usually do this type of work. I think the crusher run is a red color stone. My neighbor had it done a few years ago and it held up pretty good.
  2. Burt, good topic in my area in 4W this year and last there have been more does running around Normally we don't shoot does, but the does look small, there should be quite a few 3-4, and 4-5 year old does. If they are they sure don't have the weight to back it up. Probably because there is no agriculture in our area. But this year I did shoot a doe, didn't weigh it maybe 100# hanging.
  3. Haven't we heard that the DEC studies showed no significant benefit to the deer population. I think I have read it on this site where it was posted right off the DEC website. First of all the way things have been before the AR started, did not stop hunters from shooting big bucks. That was their choice, but now with AR if your not a trophy hunter you don't get a choice. This is not pitting one hunter against another it's just a different mentality of hunting. As far as more hunters on this site being for AR I don't buy it, not everyone on this site posts their preference just the most vocal respond. There are over a 1000 members to this forum i believe and most of the surveys only capture a small group of members. I believe there is a silent majority against AR. MHO
  4. Congrats that looks like a real big doe, what did it weigh?
  5. Joe, it's been like that for as long as I have been hunting. So even with out AR you can still hunt your big bucks if you want too. Just as you have done in the past. But know with AR the odds are more in your favor. Not in the favor of the average hunter, his choices are limited and yours are going up. So for the trophy hunters this is a good deal, not so for those not in favor of AR.
  6. You are still the Doewhacher. Good job.
  7. Sam I didn't think you could tell this early in the gestation of a deer.
  8. In the past few years I have shot a few bucks that had 3 pts on at least one side Two 6 pt with gun and one 6 pt with a bow. They just happen to be the deer that I saw and were in shooting range so I took them. I am by no means a trophy hunter I take what is dealt to me and no matter what it is I am happy, buck small or large, doe etc. Sure I would shoot a big rack buck, but it's not my main reason for hunting. I like meat in the freezer, being in the woods and appreciating what nature has to teach me. Next year we have AR in my area, can't wait to see what that will do to the hunting. Not in favor of the AR, feel it's the hunters choice.
  9. Good job, whether first minute or last it's all good.
  10. How many long guns will it hold? How much does it weigh? Interested
  11. Pat don't fall for the hype that all is good in drilling land. Just take a ride to Pa, and see all the dissatisfied land owners. Then go to Syracuse where the land owners want to get out of the deals they signed because the gas companies never gave them all the info on the drilling methods. And they haven't even started drilling yet.
  12. Why do you say our country needs the gas? In fact it's not true we have all we need right now. Check the stock marked NAT GAS IS DOWN MOST OF THE year. This is a local issue right here in NY. Most gas is used in the cities and not much up north, costs too much to run gas lines, not enough profit in rural areas. Would you give up your wood burning stove for gas heat? The conversion may cost 3-4 thousand dollars, provided there is a gas main in front of your house. But what you haven't heard is that the gas companies may sell the gas over seas not here as we all expected.
  13. The big land owners want the lease money and royalties the small plot land owners want nothing to do with it, It's just greed.MHO
  14. Pat you wouldn't want your home town to look like N.J ? Ever drive down the stinky part of the NJ Turnpike with all the smoke stacks. Would you want that for NY?
  15. Be careful Pat they say if you drink that frackin water it could affect your brain.
  16. Pat how great would that shirt be when you and your family can't drink your water that is contaminated. Then the gas company tells you it's a naturally occuring process. But you never had the problem before the drilling started. And you can't do a dam thing about it except move.
  17. We have had this topic up for discussion before, even had a survey for pro or con.Was close to 50/50 split.
  18. Just thinking the same thing, when guys are eating tag soup. Others are killing 5-6 deer or more.May be the new regulation should be no more than one buck and one doe period. That should be enough for any hunter to be satisfied with.
  19. Like someone else said on this site there are no chip shots in deer hunting, s--t happens, and that is true.
  20. If you get antlers it comes with more meat.
  21. Pat that is exactly right where is the enforcement coming from. Especially if that Hydrofracking for natural gas gets passed in NYS. DEC can't even enforce game laws how can they monitor hundreds and even possibly the thousands of projected gas drilling sites all over the state. Hope the fracking gets voted down.
  22. Dave I would get in shape before you go, do some hiking carrying a loaded back pack with the weight you will be carrying.
  23. I'll be he's pretty good at drinking beer
