Nice buck in the snow

Thanks guys! I was thinking the same thing Wolly, they certainly share some similar looking bone, and yes it's the same farm. -
Glad to see this buck patrolling this farm. Never seen him before, but I hope he sticks around.

Who wants Yearling Buck Protection with ARs in their area?
WhitetailAddict11 replied to Meat Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I'm all for AR, but I give props to GrowAlot, I found myself agreeing with a lot of what you said. You certainly can't beat boots on the ground, and trail cams have significantly increased our ability to inventory not only the deer on our properties as a whole, but the bucks as well. That point being made, I still wish for AR's, or as an alternative, a longer archery season in the Northern zone for areas outside of ADK park.- 320 replies

Great story Wolly. I too have entertained the thought of hunting with a more traditional set up a time or two, but I know it's one of those deals that is definitely harder than it looks. It requires full dedication and really tuning yourself into the bow and that style of hunting. You have my support 110% man, but for the sake of the animal, make sure you take your practice and execution seriously!

I couldn't tell ya. My buddy's father had a buck done last year in a sneak and the taxidermist used his real bottom teeth as well so it must be one of his little trademarks I guess. Certainly add's realism.

Thank ya gentleman!

Full sneak with a slight lip curl. Has his real bottom teeth inside as well. Looks excellent!

I forgot to mention that the day I hung it was absolutely driving rain, and the next day was a terrible wind. Otherwise I would have done exactly what you guys said. I love the idea of hanging a stand in the early spring phade. I have found some of my best doe bedding areas during that time of year.

Every year we find those hot spots while hunting that just NEED to have a stand. I had a hunch about a certain ridge all off season, but didnt want to waste a stand on it without a little extra infromation (I hang most of my stands in August/September), so I decided to wait for mid October. I quickly scouted it in the rain about the third week of October, and to my pleasant surprise it was littered with day old rubs, on trees of all sizes. I knew via trail cams that this was the core area of the better bucks on this farm, so my senses were telling me this was the place to be, and to top it all off, the once in a lifetime "perfect tree" took me about 2 minutes to find. I hung the stand in a split pine, trimmed some lunker sized limbs, and 2 days later I killed my best buck to date. The whole point of this is I'm a firm believer of quick scouting and hanging stands in the rain during the season to help avoid any detection. I hung a stand in late september on the same farm over a small rubline, and got pictures of the same 4 bucks the next morning, which led to the "killing tree" further down the ridge that i previosuly talked about. How about you guys? What's your tactics for hanging and/or finding those hot spots?

I'm in agreement with Doc, find the trails leading to a food source, preferably not right on the food source, to many eye balls. Their stomachs are deffinitely improving the daytime movement. Gotta pack it on for the winter.

6 dandy bucks have been taken between my best Southern zone farm and the surrounding neghbors, so unless its a booner, I'll be after skin heads with the stick and string for the last couple days. Cold weather and plenty of doe tags, what more could you ask for?! I have the option of hunting with a smoke pole but I have that fred bear blood, I just cant get anough of bowhunting.

I hope you named him the "muley" buck haha

I scout and hunt for fair chase whitetails, that does not make me a "whiner" or a "kid" or any of that non sense. You can pay for women and you can pay for whitetails, but the outcome is the same. The experience is not even close to the real thing, and everyone who is legit judges you for it. Try and enter those "bucks" in the record books and let me know how the real record holders feel about it Verminator. I'd love to stick you in a private forum amongst guests such as the Benoits and the Salerno brothers and watch you BS your way out of that hornets nest.

Take your highly unwelcome response somewhere else. It's not hunting, plain and simple. Sitting in a log cabin shooting house, in reclining roller chairs, in your plain clothes, with several bucks over 190" out in front of you is not hunting by any stretch of the imagination.
