so here's the deal....i was in my stand about 18yrs ago when i was younger and had my light weight boots on. being that i was hunting in the buffalo area, we got a freak (not really b/c it happens all the time) snow storm. long story short by the time i got home i had a small case of frostbite on the footsies. anyways, in the years since, i had tried almost every solution i can think of to solve the problem of my feet being cold as hell while i am in the woods. i have tried everything from extra socks, extra heavy boots (i have a pair of -40 pack boots) foot warmers, and all of them combined. its not a matter of feet sweating because i will only wear the under armor or rocky boots type of sock liner or just a normal pair of socks then change into a fresh pair and then layer the heavy socks as the feet get progressively colder? any and all suggestions would help and be greatly appreciated. i am thinking about spending some money and buying a pair of electric socks but don't know if i really wanna go that far or just suffer with the cold

Any Experience With Lasor Vision Correction?
firehunter48 replied to Cabin Fever's topic in General Chit Chat
i personally havent had done and dont need too (thank goodness) but my old room mate wore glasses and contacts on a daily basis to see normal (obviously). he was lucky enough to get hired by FDNY about 3 years ago and he made the investment to have it done so he didnt have to screw around with the inserts that you put into your SCBA mask if you had glasses. he has sworn by it since he had it done and says it was some of the best money he has ever spent -
coon??? just a thought

that just looks painful as hell doesnt it????

From what i have read on here....i would say it all depends on your area. A lot of the guys (and gals) here say that the bucks are chasing does and a few of them have pics of bucks hitting mock scrapes that they made. If your in the same area as those guys, i would say go for it

Just a little reminder for everyone to stay safe while in the woods and/or shooting. I have no idea how this happened. i found the pic on a facebook page of a friend. Also reminding everyone to make sure that they all have adequate first aid supplies and equipment at the camp or in the truck while they are in the woods. As much as nobody on here wants to see any hunter get hurt, they are called accidents for a reason, so stay sharp

After i wrote the original, i went back and looked at it again. Yes i do stand corrected. it is only the one deer that has a tag. I actually went though and read the captions that were posted on the pics as well to find out that they were tangled up in some sort of rope/twine

Welcome to the club and have fun trying to curb the addiction of hunting (and being on this site!! LOL). Stick around here and dont be afraid to ask questions here. Nobody will judge you and you will learn A LOT from everyone here.

Was cruising around on the other hunting site for the WNY area and found this posted. Damn shame if you ask me but if they would allow more hunting in Erie county, we probably wouldn't be having these kind of problems. Although, it looks like these 2 were fighting and got locked up. If you look closely at one of the pictures (i think its the one when they are both together in the open grass) you can see the police issued deer tags on them both http://huntingwny.com/component/option,com_community/Itemid,3/albumid,282/groupid,21/task,photo/view,photos/#photoid=1950

im not one to "use" scents persay. i even go as far as to even only use baking soda to wash all of my hunting clothes. i have been lucky enough to get at least one deer of some kind almost every year. BUT i will say that this year i did a little research and read online about some home made scents that i think i am going to at least try. hopefully it will get at least a doe into range so i can fill my freezer that is getting to be pretty bare

i have NEVER taken a deer to the butcher. i was always told by friends who had it done by one that they never get all of their meat back and i always had the fear of not getting MY deer back. i can remember back for as long as i can, being out in my grandmothers garage or parents garage "trying" to help my father butcher the deer. I was taught at a very young age and have been teaching my son along the way as he grows up. Now that i am re-married and she has gotten into the sport, she is learning as well. For someone who is on a limited budget, its not worth spending the $$ to have someone else do it. It really is a simple process, just a little time consuming

is there still that small piece of state land you can hunt out there? i used to hunt a place out there somewhere when i was in high school (early 90's) and cant remember for the life of me where it was

there is a guy in Kennedy NY that my father uses quite a bit that does all that kind of specialty meats like bologna, salami, pepperoni, slim jims and more. i honestly cant tell you the name of the guy but i will say that he puts out some good stuff. i know that was pretty vague but hopefully it gives you at least a little bit of direction. if you want his name, let me know and i will see if my father knows his info or just where he is

So i go into the bedroom and get my bow (that is only 5-6months old) off of the rack on the wall to make a new carry sling out of paracord. Anyways, i it down in the chair, put the bow on my lap and when i go to pick it back up again, my sights fall off the mounting bracket into my lap. upon closer inspection, the bracket is broke and now i have to go to the damn store and find one i like, put it on, sight in all three pins. and opening day is tomorrow

i agree completely g-man.....me and the little woman were just talking about getting the hell out of here as well. we are both country type people and want to go back to the small town lifestyle. plus i would love to be able to go out and be able to walk into the woods from my backyard. and actually we would love to move into my parents cabin on 92 acres in bolivar but i dont think they will go for that

welcome and hope you enjoy this place as much as everyone else here does. where about in WNY are you? I'm in lancaster

Was doing some looking around on the www and found a lot of interesting articles on homemade deer scents. Just wondering if anyone on here uses them and if so, how well do they work and what do you use?

This is little Miss Abby. She is a yellow Lab and beagle mix. First pic she is around 10-11 weeks old. The middle pic is at around 6 months. And the last is pretty recent. Now she is 10 1/2 months old and we are thinking she is right around full grown. right around 40lbs and the size of a large beagle

OK....since there has been 83 views at this point with no replies, I will re-phrase/modify the post......... Does anyone know of any public places to hunt in the suburbs of buffalo? I know there used to be a couple of places in Clarence 20 years ago when i was in high school but do not know if they are still public or where the hell they even are for that matter. I am really looking local due to the wife being in school and it is going to be hard to go anywhere else except on the weekends. But since she doesnt start classes until 10am, that leaves a few hours each morning to hunt. Any help would be greatly appreciated
