  1. 2 doe so far in 9x......come on turkeys!! If u read my post "First time" u'll get the turkey comment
  2. First time in the stand this year. Got delayed by the wife "making" have a pace maker "installed". Kidding obviously but she got a tad pee o'd when i asked if it could wait till December. Not here 10 minutes and seen 2 doe. Dr won't "allow" me to draw my bow till next week when I officially hit the 5 week mark. So sitting here enjoying the view with the trusty 12 ga loaded with copper plated 4s for those darn turkeys that are always around, but of course won't be since I have a gun.
  3. 20 years as well and won't ever switch again. Made that mistake once last year and had to switch back immediately. Truly awesome heads

    List

So I am trying to put together a list of things a first time hunter should have for a new hunter we are mentoring. Of course I have quite a few things on it already but figured I would ask all of you for your must haves while hunting. Feel free to include the obvious as I may have overlooked them and had an alzheimers moment. Thanks in advance guys and gals
  5. Male or female it shouldn't matter either way. The ONLY way this sport and traditions will stay alive is by helping others that don't know quite as much as we do and by welcoming them into this sport with open arms, at least the ones that should be welcomed. And I say that because we have all seen the ones that we do NOT representing us or the sport. Maybe it's just me but if I am at the club with my father shooting, I am always looking at what others are doing. If I can't help them, maybe I can learn something. Even to this day, I help my father with his archery since he has only been shooting for a few years compared to my 25 years. We are currently teaching /mentoring 2 females. My parents neighbors daughter who is in her mid twenties and never has hunted before and also are teaching my Mrs. My Mrs had been around it for the past 7 seasons but still has yet to be in the woods and in a stand while being armed. Should be an interesting year
  6. For some reason it sounded like u were a WNY'er the way u were talking. Was just curious. Probably cause u were actually defending the bills
  7. I'm thinking about ordering the ones from Sportsman's Guide that are $47 for a whole DOZEN. I'm far from cheap but that odds are that they are going to to get broke, damaged or lost while in a hunting situation. Target or 3d arrows are a different story
  8. Myself and my father have both been trying g to find one for my Mrs. And cant. My parents neighbors have been trying to find one for their daughter as well and cant. Dicks have had the Axis advertised but do not have ANY Axis' in stock. Cabelas will price match but they don't have any either. Guess they're just gonna have to borrow a gun this year and maybe get o e as a Xmas gift. But we probably are the only ones thinking about it ad a gift so we'll all be S.O.L. then too. But we've obviously heard great things as well which is why we're looking for one. I hope she enjoys it as much as my Mrs would
  9. Now maybe it's just me, but I'm not to sure if I'd be sitting 15' up in a tree and trusting a stand that u paid $27 for...I know I'd be strapped in with a harness and all, but I don't really wanna test one if those out either. Like i said, maybe it's just me
  10. Yup....just screw it in with the stabilizer like it's a washer
  11. Yupper but mine is super light, not heavy like u say yours is. It's also super short axle to axle
  12. literally just a foot of 1/2" copper with 1 elbow and then i took and made a cut length wise down a piece and made a couple of bends and soldered that to the top so i can slide my phone's belt holder to it. Cut a couple of holes in the belt clip so the phone's camera can be seen through the clip
  13. Happiness is a large gut pile, as you can plainly see from her smile and the gut pile in the bcakground
  14. We seen a line of cars at a gas station in Chaffee on the way home from the cabin yesterday. I had to look twice when I sen that they were giving the gas away at $3.23
  15. Anyone have any idea on what an old Browning Xcellerator II would be worth? I have one in the rafters at my parents and i just seen a Browning bow that is older than the Xcellerator on C-list for $150 or 200. I am pretty sure this other person is nuts asking that kind of money but please tell me that they aren't so I can list mine for ridiculous money
  16. Sorry....shouldve gone in the DIY section
  17. Since I am actually on a computer I can finally upload the pic of the phone mount I made for the bow. I get bored and tinker around and I didnt wanna spend the kind of money they are asking for retail mounts so i made one from some copper I had laying around. I know it may make me sound like I am cheap, but I'm really not. Just think that if I can make it, why pay someone else. I know its not pretty by any means but it actually works and didnt cost me anything but a few hours and some solder. Please be kind, lol
  18. Tried vanilla for a coupe years in a row. Seen the same amount of deer that i seen without it. Personally don't think it helps or hirts. Don't think the deer really care. I am trying anise this year in hopes of bringing the bear around
  19. Of course I'm still recouping from having the pacemaker I stalled but dad called from the stand in 9x (Bolivar) and said he has never seen more deer in one sit than this morning. Even seen a Fisher for the 1st time on our land we've had for 7 seasons now. Said the does have broken up out of their groups and said that they were actually f funny like they were being chased, but had no interst. More like the one or 2 that were acting like this were trying to get away from something. Two more LONG LONG LONG a$$ weeks b4 I can get in the stand
  20. I would agree with jjb about pushing it. I'm not a Dr BY ANY MEANS but I did spend 16yrs in EMS so I have a little knowledge. If u push it by doing to mich to soon, u will end up doing more damage and be out for longer if not forever. I'm in the same boat right now. I had a pacemaker "installed" on September 26th and I am sitting at home on my duff waiting to get cleared by the dr and more importantly, by the wife to hunt. Today marks 2 weeks and have another 2-4 to go. I know I COULD pull my bow but if I screw up and pull the wires out of the chambers of the heart, I have to do it all over again. Meaning another surgery and another 6 weeks with a pissed off wife and out for the entire 2014 season. If I do what I'm told, I'll get 2-3 weeks of archery and all of rifle. It's not worth pushing it. Take the time to let it heal and go to PT. Tell ur therapist that u are an archery hunter and ur main goal is to not only be back to normal but to pull ur bow. They will work with u and make u whole again
