Possibly the bigger buck stumbled into the area the smaller one was trying to establish as his own. They are all in the process of establishing their own core areas now that the velvet is off. My guess is that there probably wasn't much sparing, before one left. Nothing like when the rut gets closer and the antlers are clattering. Bucks are ready to breed as soon as the velvet is gone and they begin to get aggressive at that point. Thats why the bachelor groups start breaking up. Its a cool pic.
