Didn't compensate correctly on the bead sight-just grazed the underbelly

The first buck I see, and get a shot at, I shoot low. I've always had a problem with using a bead with slugs, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why! Any suggestions?

Get a barrel with rifle style sights. You can get smooth bores that have them if thats what tickles your fancy.

I think you can even get magnetic ones that attach to the rib of a smooth bore.....not sure how good they are, but probably will serve you better than a bead.

Sounds like something that the slightest bump will move. So every shot will miss.

On my browning I bury the bead...in other words the moment the the bead is level with the top of barrel I'm dead on...We also dab florescent orange paint on our beads...bright nail polish works to...when shooting long shots 100yrds I practice enough to know the slug drop and aim accordingly...now what is written on the box may differ from what gun and barrel you are using...mine don't drop as much as the box states..so you need to dial your gun in

Shooting a shotgun using the bead is like shooting a bow instinctively, I suck at both.

Interesting: Most miss high with a single bead sight...caused by keeping the head too high. You didn't mention the distance for the low miss....It might have been caused by simple slug drop. Do some work on the target range...You can figure it out.

You need to get to know your gun. Agree with Early, need some practice at the range. Start close, 30yds, then 40, 50, 60, and so on.

By the way, what gun you shooting, what type slugs, how far was the deer??
