WNY Bowhunter
Well, I had my evening hunt ruined by some idiot coming in on me an hour before dark. Apparently, he didn't care about by truck already being there and ended up sitting 40 yds away. Needless to say, I headed back to my truck all ticked off... I stopping to talk to a buddy of mine for a few minutes and on the way home I drove by the cloverfields on the backside of the woodlot that I had been hunting earlier and lo and behold the buck in my avatar was out there feeding with a yearling buck and a bunch of does. The property is owned by an anti-hunter so it serves as a sanctuary for the local deer. I watched through the binos as he got into a sparring match with the little 6-pt and payed no attention to the does? Boy, am I happy to see him alive and well after the first week of gun season. At the same time, it sucked to be within shooting range of the buck of a lifetime and not being able to pull the trigger!!! I think that I'm gonna have to pound a few beers now to drown my hunting sorrows... !!!
Cabin Fever
At least he's still alive! Just cross your fingers he stays where he is and lays low for a few weeks! Good thing he wasn't showing interest in the does, as they might get him in trouble!
WNY Bowhunter
I wish he would stop showing up in the daylight where he's so visible from the road. Now, my goal has changed from killing him to picking up his sheds in a few weeks... What's the scoop with your big boy?
Cabin Fever
No sightings at all and only got him on trailcams 2x all year! He's a smart old boy, so I think he'll make it through season. I would be sick if someone just lucked onto him, as hard as I've been hunting him this year! Always worried about him getting shot in a neighbors "drive" or something! Shutter to think about him going down that way! So far, I don't think any neighbors have been putting on any drives.... I'd like to keep it that way too! WNY Bowhunter
Seems like the monsters always get whacked by some half-azz hunter or by someone that is new to the game of deer hunting. Hope you get a crack at him...he's definately one of the largest typical bucks in the state this year!!! HuntOrBeHunted
Had the same thing happen to me and it's horrible. I walked into my spot were I made a nice little ground blind I had made and some moron put a ground blind in the place of the one I built. I asked him if he had done it he said no... Little did he know I was there the day before and I know that my built blind was still there. Not much i can do but it's a shady move by that guy!! WNY Bowhunter
It's definately not the first time that it's happened to me. In hindsight, I'm kinda glad that the moron did show up and ruin my hunt or I never would have seen that buck (he's the one I was sitting there waiting for in the first place). Nomad
I have been after this guy since bow saw him the last Thur. of bow for an 1 1/2 hours opening day and setting up on him that Sunday jumped him out of his bed... This is a pic taking while cutting corn as he runs to neighboring land...this past wed. I had him pinned to one small area, now the corn is down where he hid and he's on the run... Good luck guys. landtracdeerhunter
I can totally relate to how u guys feel on these big deer. The dedication u guys have to these deer, go far beyond the average hunter. These big guys have one advantage, their still out there and 75% of hunters are out of the fields for the year. They wouldn't get that big, if they weren't so dam smart. Good luck on your persuit, and hope to see your hands around their antlers. By next weekend things should be better and the deer should back into a feeding pattern. Good luck guys!!!
wdswtr
Well it could be worse. A buck I been after during bow for 2 years now got hit by a car next to my house a couple weeks ago. Talk about a bummer.
