Crossbow Debate 2013...

So why not open it up to rifles also? You can still use your crossbow if you want... no one would make you switch. Are you jealous that the rifle hunters would kill all of "your" deer? Why exactly should I have to use a bow or crossbow if I want to use a rifle? Why not just have one open season where you can use whatever you want? Your argument makes NO SENSE.

Sorry, but the argument you are trying to associate with theirs. A rifle is in no way comparable to a crossbow. If you think it is, you have drank too much NYB Kool-aid, like Belo.

You can spout all you want about having not made up your mind but the stench of NYB is clear. I could tellit was only a matter of time. You ARE worried about how it will ruin your "expereince". figures.

Hey now... those are fighting words. Isn't NYB the reason muzzleloader season got crammed into bow season? I would say I'm about as anti-NYB as you can get.

What if the rifle hunters promise not to shoot more than 30 yards? Would that make it better?

So how would rifles ruin someone elses experience? I just don't see the validity of one argument over the other.

: Excluding elderly and handicap; why would a current non bow hunter start hunting archery season if crossbows were legal?

I can think of some reasons.

Say a father that is NOT a bow hunter wants to get his kids into the sport. I thinnk it would be easier for him to instruct and get the kids into it.

I also the crossbow would be an easier gateway bow to use for any new archer to learn and become successful with. I can't see where that is a bad thing. Once they get eh hang of it and are able to take some game with it the could very well want a greater challenge and go to a compound and maybe then to a long bow.

not rifles....I was speaking of crossbows. The attitude conveyed over and over on numerous threads seems to be opposition becasue of how "they" would be a negative influence on "my" bow hunting.

The DEC archery course allows you to hunt during archery season

The DEC archery course allows you to hunt with a bow period!...with out the course you are not allowed to hunt ANY time in NYS with a bow...Which is how it should be for crossbows if they allow cross bows to be a legal implement in NY...I now give up trying to make you under stand

I get that. Zhe Wiz's response kind of p'd me off. I guess I just need to get used to all these elitist crossbow users thinking they are better than everyone else.

LOL.

Its not about what the hunters decision is, its the capability of the weapon being used. Crossbows are archery equipment, by definition, and have a very similar effective range to other forms of archery equipment. A rifle is a gun, uses different means and method to kill, has a completely different effective range, etc etc.

Again, it was a temporary trial period, and was announced as such. The rules were only valid for crossbows, not any other form of archery equipment. I think we are nit picking at this point, dont you?

Excluding elderly and handicap; why would a current non bow hunter start hunting archery season if crossbows were legal?

1. New hunters who are just getting into the sport, see xbows being used on TV and think they are cool.

2. Current hunters who are afraid of heights and won't go in treestands. Maybe they can't set up a ground blind on state land, etc. A crossbow gives them better odds on the ground with no blind than a compound.

3. Hunters who want to expand their hunting seasons, but dont have the time to practice enough with the compound bow.

There are many reasons. I'll be out on 10/1 with my Excalibur and I am going to shoot "Your Deer".

I haven't seen one crossbow post wanting the archery season for only their use. I haven't seen anyone wanting to use a crossbow talking about how the other bow hunters would ruin their hunts. Tying the term :elitist" to crossbow is beyond a stretch.
