Had 4 jakes come in this am....only 3 left.heard 4 other places on the farm that had gobbles coming from it.I think the commission from the farming equipment made the birds leave the area for a bit,but they are back in full force now!! this is the first bird that I actually blew his head off!!HAHAHA I was going to post a pic but figured I better not

I'll kill one tomorrow.

Pretty bold claim if I don't say so myself. Confidence never hurts...............!!

Boy do I hate a liar................

I never heard a peep until 8:30am, from probably 3/4 mile away.  Two very faint gobbles non the less.  I sat on that SOB until I glanced at my watch (phone) and saw that it was 9:37am and I had a 11:00am job in Clarence with a 50 minute ride home, 15 minutes to brush the choppers/change clothes/change vehicle and make a 15 minute drive to the job.

I busted out of the woods, jumped in the truck and headed north.  I got to the job by 11:15am, all is good!

Again, unevenful quiet morning... Based on my scouting there's at least three goblers n a handful a jakes roamin around but havnt heard or seen a thing in weeks besides the occasional stray hen ... Up n disappeared ! That's it for me.. Might get out once or twice more the last weekend... Glad I shot that jake opening day now ,even though he presented himself as a Tom behind the thick stuff n huge fallen oak struttin away... I'm jonsen hard for bow season already as I've seen four big bodied bucks sporting some decent hardware already ...

Went out Saturday morning to Gr Island, needed a change of scenery from the tight lipped gobblers in the southern tier and the long AM drive. Didn't hear a gobble until 7 am when out of frustration I started calling a little more aggressively. Got a gobble very close!! I was in a blind on a field with 2 hen and 1 jake decoy out. called in 4 jakes had them right in front of the blind , so I decided to screw with em. I clucked loud on my slate and boom another gobble from the woods, there was a long beard with them. Killed him 5 minutes later, the bastard tried to sneak behind the blind. 19.8 lbs., 9-9/16" beard, 1" spurs. Bird #2 AND I'm tagged out!!Unbelievable as this season I haven't seen or heard many birds, but you can never kill one from the couch. Now what am I going to do all Memorial weekend?

Need to get back on that bird next morning

I rather sleep until 6:15, have two cups of decaf, water my flowers & veggies, read the local rag, fix the damn tail light on my wife's van, eat eggs & toast then cruise the local web forum. (All done)

Maybe I'll wash my truck in a bit, go to the shooting club, p/u propane on the Rez and hit Wegmans for some grub. Wifey has to work so the weight of the world is square on my shoulders today.

Ahhhh screw it, I'm going to Tim Horton's for a cup of full strength to kick things in a higher gear...........
