woodchuck
OK, I have a problem.... the deer that have had ipcs taken daily for the past month are no-shows since last week. Does anyone know what crops or mast is dropping or ready right now that would change the deer movement like this. I have a bunch of apple trees that are dropping apples big time. I wonder if my neighbors, (they are deer poachers) have anything to do with this. The past 2 years this happened. It goes from tons of deer to next to nothing. only cam thats producing right now is the cam in the big foodplot. I am scratching my head as to what would make the deer stop coming through like this. any ideas??????
Four Season Whitetail's
Acorn's???
sweet old bill
We have had two light frost and the apples are on the ground. But I think the mast is on like red acorns or white acorns. I did see a light scrape on the edge of a pasture, but not seeing any rubs in the area.
Doc
This is the beginning of the "tricky" part of the season. Apples dropping, acorns falling, crops are being harvested ..... all kinds of changes in the deer world. Soon the rut changes will be changing up the patterns even more. There are all kinds of things happening and things to come that will turn all the "scouting" observations on their head.
G-Man
Summer patterns are ending, but if there are a lot of camps around the woods are being intruded in by humans big time, riding quads, putting up stands, scouting, hunting small game. Heck just fire in long dormant chimneys, let alone car doors slamming. Leaves starting to fall, white oak dropping nuts, farmers starting ttime harvest crops, people out spotting at night... pics are good indicators of what's around, but seasonal shifts and others factors make deer move a bit I'm sure they are near by just a little move for food or away from disturbance.

gjs4
There is also a LARGE relationship between hunters in the woods for cams and stands and deer not being in the woods where they were
growalot
Papist...the thing about summer cams is...it lets you know what your hunting land is used for...here no buck pics all summer...but the doe are plentiful and they are rearing their fawns here ...that tells me I have home bodies as far as mature doe and the bachelor groups are on adjoining properties...or over the next ridge....when fall hits those doe will attract the buck Getting to know how your land is used during the summer will give you an idea of #'s and fall activity...that's never a waste IMO
growalot
True..I pull all cams once season starts...I will reposition them close to the house.... The vehicles have been very busy on the hill and every day guys stop to read the posted signs...I have to laugh and wonder...with all the obvious food plots the new fence and all the posted signs..and an enclosed shooting house and barns visible from the road....why bother ...It's an active hunting property ...and doesn't any body work during the day any more...it's like living on 5&20, way into the night now...I know gas prices haven't gone down...this hill sucks gas out of a car like a siphon...lol (sp) Edited September 21, 2013 by growalot
Fantail
Perhaps they are seeking new bedding areas close to Octoberfest.
