Lord of War
Now that the leaves are falling...how do you guys recommend concealing your stand? The only thing I can think of is setting up backwards facing away and using the tree trunk to mask your outline. wooly
After the leaves dropped I hung my climber in a hemlock like a lock on stand. I don't like climbing this time of year when frost or ice can make those tree trunks extra greasy. You're not gonna get much concealment out of a straight trunked tree right now without drawing more attention to yourself. Your idea sounds good in theory, but I know it would never work for me with the style harness I have being too short for that.
gastrodoc
I always try to find a tree that has a hemlock or pine as a backdrop to help conceal me. Beach and oaks will oftentime still have their leaves so can also serve as a nice backdrop. If the area you hunt is only straight stemmed hardwoods it can be very difficult. The only option then is going higher but I have had them spot me 25ft up in a wide open tree
NYbuck50
I rarely hunt out of my climber after bow ends, but if i do, im just up in the tree higher. With the leaves gone, i can see alot farther as well. I can usually pick the deer off on their way in before they get me 20 feet up
Nomad
I have one friend who always faces the tree with his climber,he sits on the rail uses trunk to hide behind. He,takes nice bucks bow and gun most years .
Five Seasons
most of ours face backwards, however most stands can get action from any direction. We have used homemade blinds. Using fiberglass rods and camo/ghilie netting you can create a waist high blind. There are also some stands that don't need it because they're in a cluster of trees and naturally hidden. crappyice
I like the facing backwards approach but i also look for clusters of trees and finding one of them to climb. It limits my shooting lanes but I like the idea of not sticking out too much.
maytom
I always try to find a tree that has a hemlock or pine as a backdrop to help conceal me. Ditto........you also might think about trying to set up in some multi-trunked trees as well. they will help break-up your outline. If you back track that trail, sooner or later you will find the ultimate tree setup.
dbHunterNY
I climb until I hit limbs
nycredneck
I always hang my stands backwards, even when I have evergreens all around me. Hides my movement real well, I can do a jig in my stand and not be noticed. Other than that there is a kit that you can attach fake branches to the bottom of the platform or do a DIY version bt putting some pvc with some drilled holes and use real branches. You need to cut the branches when leaves are still on them and they will stay on fot quite a while.
