bluecoupe
I see a LOT of people who shoulder both shotguns and rifles like this guy. What am I missing? There's no way I'd shoulder a firearm like this.

bluecoupe
I hear ya but it's not just this one. I see a LOT of people shouldering like that. I guess no one is teaching proper technique any more? Now, I understand carrying at the ready position etc, but firing like this just makes me shake my head. Actually, more like cringe but.... Culvercreek hunt club
Even more than proper techniques I think it is almost a lost art to get a gun that actually fits you. I have very large cheek bones. Unless I am shooting a rifle with a scope I can't get down on a stock with a Monte Carlo stock. Just doesn't fit. Most of my rifles I can't even use the low rings even though the scope would accommodate them. I need the extra height. I see guys at the range shooting and not even have their face in contact with the stock. One of the best set ups I have seen for an entry level gun that I am surprised more companies don[t do is the Mossberg 500 combo. They give you two cheek pads for the stocks. One high one to work with their cantilever barrel and scope to raise your head up and a lower one that aligns you lower for the vented rib barrel. Works pretty well
UpstateNomad90
I will let him send a 405 gr down range out of my 45-70 and see if he still rests his gun on the collar bone
DanceswithSkunks
Better cheek weld and eye closer to line of sights. Don't try this with anything that has recoil.
bluecoupe
Good point CulverCreek, that's why I bought the cheek extender pad for my Mossy 500 'cause I sat a 2x7 Leupold on top. I also put the Knoxx stock on it and I can now instantly adjust the stock length based on what clothing I have on. Love it. But it seems like everywhere I look anymore - that's how people are shouldering weapons. I just really don't understand. I understand the light recoil thing but I wouldn't even try and shoot a .22 like that. Has to affect accuracy.

Doewhacker
Let him try a heavier magnum like that...lol I didn't have mine just right while practicing last summer and my hand went numb from the misplaced recoil. For hours! haha
