PWGUNNY
I have always pulled my motorcycle trailer through the EZPass and never been charged extra. If you pull through a manned lane they will charge you per axle.
shawnhu
I don't have an ez pass but always thought the "reader"read the ez pass box, not plates?? Enlighten me............................. Worked for a company that is a competitor to EZ Pass, and the cameras they use is pretty high tech. $60 a camera, and it'll get you at 120 MPH+. Can't evade tolls. The computer systems to store all the DB's alone costs 2 million on some projects. Tag readers are now capable of reading in excess if 80+ MPH, but isn't advertised but it too, will get you. If your plate is registered to an EZ Pass account, you'll be automatically billed even if your tag wasn't read, due to license plate capture. If not, the owner of the plate will get a bill in the mail along with a fine. shawnhu
I can tell you it doesn't wok that way in the automated lanes between Albany and Buffalo. It reads the tag and has no idea how many axles you have. EZ Pass systems are a little dated when it comes to axle sensors. Not all stations have them, so it's best to pull into a manned station. shawnhu
All I know is every time I go over the throgs neck and George Washington bridges in the automated ezpass lane, I get charged a few dollars extra. I have been doing it for years, I get charged every time. How they know? No idea. There are electro-magnetic sensors prior to you entering the tag reader area. These sensors are not based on weight, but specifically designed for reading axles. Mainly used for trucks and semi's. shawnhu
just go through the unmanned ez pass lane. They get enough of our tax monies, why pay more just because you are pulling a little trailer. Wow, bad advice. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
Geno C
Thanks for the input guys! I drove back to LI today that's why I asked. I didn't chnce it tho... I'm going to call and see what they say. I'm pissed tho! Went on tapenzee and it's usually 5$ one way the guys charged me $11.50! With a 5x8 Atv trailer single axle, it would have been cheaper to drive another truck through that thing. Highway robbery!! NY is getting crazy, I looked at the guy and said 11.50?? Hes like I know it's crazy right

shawnhu
I am telling you it doesn't work that way up here. I stated in a previous reply that EZ Pass systems are dated, and that not all lanes have this in place. But the ones that does have them, the sensors are designed for axle count.
