DEC trees...

Has the DEC trees list come out yet?...use to get one every year then they stopped so I went with Stueben county's trees......but the DEC list is a bit different on varieties...

I got mine ( Steuben Co) just today.

They have 4-6' apple and pear trees for $18-$19.

Is that a good price ?

Has anyone had any experience with the " Blake's Pride" pear ?

It depends on the type of tree, the rootstock, etc.

 

That could be a great price or it could be a "not worth it" price.

 

I have heard of Blake's Pride but never been around it. Probably a good fit for the area, but as far as characteristics, no idea.

Not really due to the fact the apples are on standard stock with moderate fire blight resistance.. You would get better trees for a little more right in your area ....

Pygmy..at my age I want SD root stock ,....Dwarf tend to produce even earlier but then trade off in having to be staked well...also tend to have a shorter good producing life span....pear tend to take longer to fruit in general...so a SD stock helps...but there are pears that naturally bare at a younger age...on kindle now so can't look up..maybe Moonglow..I know mine is 4 yrs and producing...look for a pear that will produce till frost and or hold their fruit on the tree well...one other thing...pears with a good wider branch angle...they tend to have very narrow branch angles...I personally find it a pain

Blake's pride is a fire blight resistant pear.

Stick with Elma 111 or b118 RS for your apples, tall trees but esp with 118 pretty precocious, u should get fruit yr 2, 3rd for sure and it's a tall tree. Waflers, cummins and Adams county are good too

Does Delaware County or Schoharie County or Greene County have trees?

I am in the Stamford area. I was going to tree some of these trees but I am sure with my impatience I will be going to Moorse Nursery and get a few hybrid oaks and fruit trees.

It's the Stueben county water authority...Google and they have 2 #'s to call...trees may be on web site not sure
