What happened

On Saturay evening i drew back on a small buck, released the arrow and heard some sort of loud whistling I have never heard before. I missed the buck but could'nt tell why. I shoot expandables and have never heard this before. Could it be the broadhead opened up before hitting the deer?

Previously I shot the same arrow with a target tip and never heard anything out of the norm.

Thats what I'd bet on.

I forgot to mention earlier, the o-ring that holds the blades was up near the fletching when I inspected the arrow.

i wonder if that is because if it went into the ground the force pushed the band back. ive never seen or heard of the rubber band going back to the fletching on just air passing past the arrow on release. it would have to be forced back that far?

That could be, it does seem pretty impossible for a tight fitting o-ring to be driven back that far on air resistance alone.

With the rubber not in place , is there any spot near the blade and arrow where there could be an air hole ?

I had an aluminum arrow that I had stuck in a sheet of plywood .I drilled around the plywood to get the arrow loose . In doing so , I put a small hole in the alum shaft . When I would shoot it at the target , it whistled all the way . Soooooo , my guess is there might be a spot for the air to pass through to make the noise .

Thanks for all the answers guys. i have just started shooting the Rocky Mountain Expandables. I looked over the nock and everythings fine.

Now that i think of it there may be a small gap between the shaft and broadhead. When i opened the package the broadhead had a small yellow rubber band on top of the treads I figured you were supposed to tighten them down with the rubber band betwnne the shaft and head. Now that i think of it I never could get teh head to tighten down completely.........that may be the problem

And another question my post is riddled with speling errors, but when i go back to fix them, I type and it goes over previosly typed stuff and erases. See I just made more errors and  I have no way of fixing them.......this is getting old........

Ya know , if you check enough sites , hunter's are terrible spellers and sometimes it is caused by typing too fast and letters are out of place but for the most part , we know what someone is saying . If the spell-check was turned on , there wouldn't be many posts ! alt=my sidehttp://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/2cents.gif[/img]

What kills me is to be typing a long piece and then checking something out only to go back to my post and I have lost it . This has happened to me mostly when posting a pic and have the screen freeze up . alt=screw uhttp://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/pissed.gif[/img]..alt=screw uhttp://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/pissed.gif[/img]..alt=screw uhttp://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/pissed.gif[/img]..

I shoot thunderheads and although they are fixed blade, they also use a rubber O ring on the threads. they NEVER got totally tight. They arent' suppose to. it allows you to tighten but gives you that 1.3 of a turn adjustment to either align or offset the blades to the fletchings depending on how they fly best for you. Yours may be the same way. you left the orings on,,,,,,right?

Deerslayer,  When that keyboard problem happens to me it is usually because I hit the "INS" button on the number keypad. Come out of num locks and and hit the INS (insert) it will toggle between insert the letter vs. writing over it.

As for the arrow whisle, I have no idea what is causing it but if all else fails , you could strap it to your car and use it for a deer warning whisle!!! ;D .

If it works, maybe Fastedie can put together a DIY video on the subject!!  ;D ;D

Good luck

I did leave them on but I have never heard of aligning expandables. And it happened again last night on a buck, another miss with the same whistling. I am cutting arrows tonight and am switching to miniblasters, its getting to close to rifle to be missing. I believe the deer must be ducking the arrows, because if i can hear it perfectly a deer being shot at can too.

By the way I'm, strapping the arrows to my hood, If i cant hit the deer im going to have to start running them over
