dbHunterNY
so far so good. we're called the Hoosick Area QDM co-op have a facebook page up and running. also we had our first board of directors meeting to set rules/guidelines. there's still a lot more involvement to come, including our first hunting season. really looking forward to the endeavor and learning more. honestly I haven't even been thinking about me shooting bigger bucks and have better hunting opposed to doing it for everyone else and my daughter when she grows up. dbHunterNY
we're having a pre-season landowner meeting to hand out rules and speak to the landowners of the co-op one last time before our first deer season is under way. wish us luck it's going to be a bit crazy and busy as we've got 11,081+ acres involved with close to 80 landowners. please check out and like our facebook page, especially for those of you associated with co-ops and/or the QDMA throughout NY. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hoosick-Area-QDM-Co-op/1488451904735375 we've been posting some interesting trail cam photos and links to videos. Thanks, Dan Edited September 13, 2014 by dbHunterNY
WNYBuckHunter
Some put up coop signs on their border but that's discouraged. If you're a part of it you know who's involved. You don't need to tempt poachers by dangling the sign in front of them. Just post property and that's it. The coop signs may actually dissuede poachers. Think about it, if people know that the landowners or leasors care enought to form a coop, then they probably care enough to patrol, use cameras and press chrges as well. dbHunterNY
It's true that there's more of a presence ECO wise near co-ops. However we were told by other co-ops to not use QDM signs and instead just post. More so the case if you're not surrounded by QDM coop land. phade
Co-op signs are WAYYYYYYYYYYY better than just QDM Managed Lands signs. Co-ops as stated means people are on the same page and there's many of them (people) looking out.
dbHunterNY
Yea I'm just going by what other coop lbs owners have told me. I see and understand both sides. We're Just starting out and lot of land owners are skeptical about stuff like this. For now until we're more on solid on both feet well use an updated map and word of mouth. SteveB
It's true that there's more of a presence ECO wise near co-ops. Why would that be true - or right if it is?
dbHunterNY
Why would that be true - or right if it is? Within co-ops we have check stations. They'll stop in at those now and then to see how everything going. Also a poacher now doesn't get the attention of a couple landowners but several as they're all working together and communicating more. So the ECO would be pressured more than normal to resolve things quickly. Coops develop a working relationship with dec. The ecos will know more about what should be going on so they're more likely to spot something wrong.
