Well it was certainly a hot day in the woods this evening but got it done anyway.

Are squirrels in season now?

Today was the first day. Borngeechee, Shawnhu, and I went and gave it a shot. Saw a few, heard a bunch, but none of them have us enough of an opening for a clean shot. The leaves were thick and the mosquitoes were hungry.

I managed 4 this morning, enough for a good meal.

 

I also missed one and saw several that I could not get a clear shot at because of dense foliage.

 

The big draw in the spot I hunted was white oak acorns.

 

Skeeters were not too bad. I'm out of butane for my thermacell, but Deep Woods Off kept them at bay.

No that's my first fox squirrel. Been hunting squirrels for almost 20 year . He was a nice male. Had a bead on a big black squirrel but to much foliage .

I can't imagine hunting squirrels right now with the bugs as muggy as it's been.
