CVA Wolf trouble

I just got done cleaning out my muzzleloader, set it up just as it should be and it appears my firing pin is riding on my primer. I noticed a smaller dimple when I took the primer out last time but now this has me a little worried. Anyone know what might be causing this? Or how to open where the hammer is housed to see if it looks okay? Thanks in advanced. post-4052-14143662096377_thumb.jpg

On my Kodiak the hammer doesnt push the firing pin in when its not cocked.  When cocked the force of the spring pressure on the hammer just drives it forward to the point it pushes the firing pin and fires the primer.  When you cock it and maually and slowly release the hammer back into non firing position it doesnt have the force to drive the firing pin.  I would guess your hammer is the issue after looking at my Kodiak. it Shouldnt be pushing that firing pin so far forward. At least that is how it is on my CVA Kodiak.

I would pull the breach plug and give everything a healthy shot of something to kill all the residual black powder.I bet that there is some buried in the threads as that's happened to me many times and maybe some in the firing mechanism. If you feel comfortable taking that apart I would do that also.

After really toying with it last night, I think the spring that handles the firing pin is broke. The pin will fire without a problem, but when I break the gun open it never retracts from the fired state. If I run my finger over the pin it will push back to where it belongs. So tonight I am going to look for a punch so I can push the pin all the way back and fit a screwdriver into the bushing and pull everything apart to hopefully confirm my belief. After reading a lot online I learned that the pin should be cleaned as much as the breech, which I have failed to do. Hopefully tonight I will have an answer.

Well used some Sea Foam deep creep on the bushing and from behind on the firing pin/hammer and everything seems to be working. Currently  it is a temporary fix as everything is in working order and test fired a primer after. I ordered the kit offline and will have to drill into the bushing to remove the old one because it won't move. Lesson learned the hard way. Thank you everyone for your help.

Sorry for the late to enter this thread but I had the same problem with my CVA optima and it was the firing pin that was rusted. I took it to a gunsmith and he removed the bushing for me. I cleaned and lubed it and now it works fine. I didn't realize that the firing pin would rust so quickly, now i remove it and clean/lube it with every cleaning.
