grampy
Hoping it all goes well for you guy's! Last year was the first year for rifle here in 4h. I used my deerslayer 2 as I didn't have a hunting rifle. I have one now and will not miss that 12 g. punishment from here on. That gun will be handed down to my grandson for his first deer.

phade
All indications I have is that this is a done deal with just formality votes/signatures. Obviously that can change but there's next to no noise against it. Monroe Co. won't be going rifle any time soon, so I'll be keeping the H&R Ultra Slug shined and ready for action. It does kick like a beast either, and I actually enjoy shooting it. I'll be toting the 30-30 or .243 much more next season in the other counties, however. NYBuckHunter27
With the apparent need to take more deer they better pass it! hahaha
gjs4
I hate very bit of this. Then again I've acquired a 243 & 270, as well as, treated myself to a 257wby. In the past year .....So might as well go with the flow.... Just can't imagine a gun season wo my savage ml but I'd be lying to say I wouldn't love to use that weatherby. Guessing all of ny aside from urban areas will go the same route in the next few. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

gjs4
I still can use my ml and may for most of my hunts. I typically use my bow for some of gun as well. The only reason I wouldn't is to giving into temptation on using new toys.... Granted the 257 was acquired w deer on the mind, I just don't enjoy gun season anywhere near as much as bow. Phade, at my folks anything that goes bang in the area has to be followed by 4 more reports- but I wish you were right. NYBuckHunter27
In most areas it shouldnt really change how we hunt, its not typical for bucks or any deer for that matter to be out in wide open fields in gun season, guys still have to remember that shots are typically within 100yrds due to thick cover and i can only imagine how deer drives will go with rilfes...i guess that part is a little scary. NYBuckHunter27
plus there will be the guys who arent willing to give up the shotgun due to fact of not wanting to buy another gun.
gjs4
If they were the same - there'd be no reason for them. They increase harvest numbers and that's why they're likely to be added.

I'd be happy to head to the range with my CF rifle and shoot against anybody with their rifled slug gun for beers at 200 yards. Takers? NYBuckHunter27
Assembly passes bill for rifle hunting in Genesee County posted by Howard B. Owens in hunting, outdoors. Press release: Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) today announced that the Assembly has passed a bill to authorize big game rifle hunting inGenesee County. Assembly Bill 4367-A passed the house Monday and passed the Senate earlier this year. Hawley, a longtime proponent of sportsmen and an opponent of the SAFE-Act, introduced the legislation in January. “As an unwavering supporter of sportsmen and the Second Amendment, I am proud to announce that my legislation has overwhelmingly passed the Assembly and will be sent to the governor for his signature,” Hawley said. “Deer hunting is a mainstay here in Western New York and many families rely on venison as a viable substitute as grocery store meat prices continue to rise. The exhilaration of a young hunter getting his or her first buck cannot be replicated and I am proud to have made that possible.”

Lawdwaz
He wrote "capable"! He didn't say they were equal to a rifle. Lets hang a pie plate at 200 yards and see how things go, OK? Damn rare is the guy that has shot out to 200 yards and has the confidence to kill and NOT wound at 200 yards. Sure they are "capable" but the odds are not favorable of a clean kill. No shotgun will ever rival a CF rifle, why not grab a rifle? The confidence it gives for even a 75-100 yard shot it worth it.

NYBuckHunter27
BATAVIA — Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed a law legalizing big game rifle hunting in Genesee County, Assemblyman Steve Hawley’s office announced Thursday evening. “This is a win for sportsmen who treasure hunting as a right of passage they share with their children, and for the families who use hunting to help put food on the table in an effort to combat the costs of living in New York state,” Hawley, R-Batavia said in a news release. “I want to thank my colleagues who supported this bill in the Assembly and Senate so it could make its way to the governor’s desk.” Genesee was among four counties statewide requesting the change. The legislation includes a two-year “sunset provision,” meaning it will need to be extended by the County Legislature in 2017. Wyoming County initially approved its rifle hunting law in 2011. It became permanent two years later. Livingston County’s law became permanent in 2014.
Lawdwaz
I read that in the latest Outdoor News, YAHOO! Although I've never hunted deer in Genesee County and probably never will I couldn't be happier for you guys & gals there. Have fun sighting in and practicing this summer and early fall for the new deal. Above all, be safe!
