First-light Posted yesterday at 12:34 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:34 PM https://www.pennlive.com/outdoors/2025/02/2-deer-test-positive-for-chronic-wasting-disease-in-new-area-of-pa.html Two cases near Scranton. My question is why did that hunter have that buck tested? I just read this online, You can get your deer tested for CWD for free by placing its head in a collection bin. You can find the locations of these bins on the Game Commission website. The other case was at a game farm. They quarantined the place for 5 years! FS wouldn't that put you out of business? Can't you just test the rest of the heard and not shut down? I don't like these little articles that pop up and don't give much detail. landtracdeerhunter Posted yesterday at 01:31 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:31 PM Not much detail. Look at the writers background.. A filler story until something comes in the arts, food, and entertainment subject matter.
Doc
The one piece of info that never seems to show up in any of these articles, is, "Does this now mean that the herd population will now dwindle down dramatically"? Can we now expect to be seeing a whole bunch of dead deer all throughout the PA woods? How serious is this news? Is this the death knell for the species? These scare-articles pop up occasionally, but no one ever researches if this disease is actually significant in any way to the actual health of the herd. Where are the articles about dead deer littering the woods? This disease has been reported for many years now, and there is no cure or effort to combat the disease and yet the impact seems to be minimal.

Just another Govt money grab to get millions in federal funding to do absolutely nothing They first tried to use it as a way of trying to get rid of game farms saying they were the problem until state after state became positive without any farms in them. Then some states have farms but no CWD has ever been found yet it’s been found in the wild in that state. It will really be a thing of the past now that Trump is in there because the republicans will not waste the money like the democrats do. CWD has never, ever hurt any herds in any states and it’s been around for over 60 years. To your question a quarantine will stop them from selling to some other ranches but they can still sell to other positive ranches. So no the positive farm will not skip a beat in sales of their animals. Demand is much to high in every state for that to happen. Even in this state I have yet ever been able to raise enough to cover the demand for them. They are sold before they are even made.
