First-light
All these years in the woods I never came across a bedded Fawn. Took the dogs for a walk and they were ahead of me. Tall grass they were very interested in something. It was a fawn. It would not budge from its position. Even with the dogs over it. I got them out of there pretty quick. Glad I wasn't mowing. Pretty happy they didn't go after it.

landtracdeerhunter
I've never seen them in the grass, like this before Always find them in areas of brush and along hedge rows. They also bed in heavy clover in my hay fields.

Doc Posted yesterday at 10:52 AM Share Posted yesterday at 10:52 AM This little one was obeying one of the deepest instincts that deer are born with. It's not something that they reasoned out or are taught. It just is somehow imprinted in their brain at birth. I snapped a couple of pictures of this critter before I backed away and let nature take its course. The strange thing is that I have also seen versions of this same behavior in adult deer, where they were willing to sit tight at close range and let me walk right on by.

Myt little guy didn't budge even with the dogs on him. You are right they are born with it.
