When at home or camp what do you use for slippery ice?I myself use ashes from the wood/pellet stoves.

When at home or camp what do you use for slippery ice?I myself use ashes from the wood/pellet stoves.

I save charcoal ashes from my grill. Works the same as wood asshes.

Ice that is dry @ -10° isn't slippery as wet ice @ 34°

What is Slippery Ice?

I don't want to track blk. Ash or coal dust into the house

In 24 years living in this house I bet I haven't spread salt or salt substitute three or four times.  This morning was unreal how slippery it was!

 

I had to "borrow" some from a friend........................all better now!

Back in my "former" life I had a stoker coal stove, and the cinders worked well for traction in the driveway, which was always icy in the winter due to several springs at the head of it.

Now that I live in town and heat with natural gas, I buy salt for the occasions when I need to deal with ice.
