Color fazes

There is so much talk about the colors of deer that we have here in the state.Has anyone ever seen a black deer?I havn't and was thinking Squirrel's have color fazes so why not the deer herds?Just something that came to my mind

they do exist...I believe they are called "melanistic".

Melanistic deer a pretty neat to look at in pics. Probably really cool in person.

 

I have the luxury of seeing black squirrels while hunting one spot and they continue to evade me when on the rare occasion I seek them out. It seems every time I am in deer mode, they show up and I won't send a BH at them.

There are white (seneca army depot ) piebald (some extra white in verying degrees) albino white( with pink hooves,eyes and noses)those are pretty rare, and the rarest of all melenistic or black deer ( lack of white anywhere) though I believe there are varying degrees of black as well, I once got a nice 7pt that was very dark and had no throat patch and the white was more grey than normal on rest of the body.

                           Do you mean color fazes as white or pibald as other have mentioned? Or do you mean the color changes they go through in the spring as from very light to very dark? Over the years I have seen light tan, red to almost maroon and very dark that look black. 

 

                          On the other side I have seen white pibald and redish during season but never black that would be cool.
