My father and I have fished Lake O for 30yrs.  We never entered a derby either.  That said, we may have caught the winning steelhead last year if we had entered, so maybe we should have.  BTW- we still get skunked occasionally, so it isn't entering the derby that causes it.

Around 1986 or 1987 I caught a King Salmon that would have won a derby, gotta be in it to win it. 

 

I wasn't and we didn't.

2 Saturdays ago a few of us were fishing at squaw island and a buddy caught a 35" 14lb walleye on his first cast the emerald shinner didn't even hit the bottom before the walleye nailed it. The fish was huge.
