KPD
Hello - I'm kind new here and was hoping to get some feedback on a tree climbing system - Has anyone ever used a tree bolt system - similar to the tree hopper bolt system It looks like you can prep trees ahead of time by drilling holes, then simply carry the bolts in and put them in as you climb - then take them with you when you leave - they just slip in the holes Looks easier and cheaper than using screw in steps - Any feedback is appreciated -
grampy
Anything that screws into the tree is not legal on public land.
KPD
Yes, knew that. I should have specified private land.
thphm
Check out Climbing Sticks, you can get them 20' and they strap on to the tree. , a little harder to carry but set up a lot faster.
phade
Sticks almost always work out better in the long run, but I know some people who have employed screwins and tree bolt systems pretty effectively. Generally speaking, every single one of these people were or are in very peak physical shape. The limit for the bolts is that most situations call for them to be pre drilled, so being able to make quick adjustments to a tree 50 yards over there, isn't easily done with bolts. Five Seasons
we've been using screw ins for years. lately though all new stands we use climbing sticks. just easier and a little safer. However, on some of our land that gets tresspassed on we still use screw ins. Take the bottom 2 out and just hope like hell you remember to bring them back in when you plan to hunt the stand. the other problem with permanent stands and even more so with screw-ins is that the tree will grow into them. You need to remember to back them off a turn every season.
gjs4
Bad idea- tried it 20 years ago.... Went to steps... Done w them... Strap on steps... Pretty much done w them... Lone wolf sticks or similar are sound money well spent and they won't break or be slippery
