12 year old shot dead by playmate

you better be good with a load of 12 gauge flying at you or some guy empyting a auto loader at you.  But to each his own.  I played baseball in my younger days. My high school average was around 250.  That means 75 pecent of the time I was unsuccessful. My average with a gun is much better.

never bring a bat to a gun fight.  You bat is useless when the person breaking in has a gun and the element of surprise. Then the family you are trying to protect from your guns is at the mercy of the perpertrator

Very true but all you guys who like to have guns for protection better know how to use them in a hostile situation. Split second thinking is needed and you need to train on how to handle yourself. Otherwise you may get killed.

I totally agree.  I have been trained very well.  The biggest part of the training i knowing when to and when not to use the gun.  But if I am going to get killed anyway, I am going down firing.  I got a lot of training so hopefully I will never have to use the gun, but am ready if I need to.  Plus my home defense weapon is my 12 gauge,  not my handguns.

There has to be something very chilling to an intruder in the middle of the night that hears that sound of a 12 guage pump being racked. There's a pretty good chance that the very next sound would be the intruder running for his life without a single shot being fired.

Handgun? ...... Don't own one. For me it just isn't the ideal self defense weapon.

Doc you are exactly right. Years ago, I was at my hunting camp with a buddy. I rode up with him and he had to leave the day before i did, so I was there and no vehice in the yard.  My cousin was coming the next day, so I was going to hunt with him, then ride home with him.  Anyway long story short,in the middle of the night, the door was pulled open and it was locked from the inside.  It was a couple looking for a place to end a night from the local tavern.  Anyway they came into the main part of the camp, and from the door of the bedroom, they heard the action on my then 742 opening and closing.  They scrambled like crazy to get out and he backed his vehicle into a tree in the yard.  Regardless of the reason someone breaks in, you better be ready.  The cops could not find the person even with a partial plate number a description it was a jeep wrangler and paint form the tree where they backed into it.  I bet they thought long and hard about breaking into a camp again.

100% correct, the best gun you could have for home defense is a pump shotgun with 00 buckshot. Out and about though, Ill take my chances with my handgun rather than nothing at all.  :)

Wow, that some story. I have often thought about that at my camp. Lucky for them they got the hell out!

Romeo and Juliet a love story ended by Bubba and his 12 gauge!
