SST’s may not fully stabilize in a rifled choke tube. You only have 3 to 5” of rifling in a choke tube. SST’s are made to be shot out of a fully rifled barrel. I would say if light fields  are working for you stay with them or maybe try buckhammers.

lihunter,

All guns react to different ammo differently, even guns of same make and model. I currently have 4 different slug guns set up strickly for deer hunting the Southern Tier, I have to use 3 different manufacturers of slugs to get the best performance out of my guns.

I personally am not a fan of rifled "choke" tubes, I believe a fully rifled barrel will give you your best performance and accuracy. There is some good advise listed above about trying different brands to see which one your gun likes best........................with todays prices, that will get costly. Trust me I know....................I have literally spent hundreds of $ on slugs fine tuning my guns. If you do decide to do the testing, take your time, use a rest, and let the barrel cool in between shots or it will effect your overall results.

I personally like the Brenneke Heavy Field Short Mag 1 1/4 oz; 2 3/4" Their accuracy is spot on and the performance is flawless.
