Pygmy
I'd just like to say that I am very happy to see another veteran turkey hunter, my good friend Maytom, posting on the forum on a regular basis. Did he ever tell you that Dick Kirby used to cut his hair ?...<<GRIN>>..... We have shared some good times...

When I first started turkey hunting, everyone used friction calls. I learned to use a mouth call by using Kirby's cassette tapes. I was one of the few guy around, (in my area anyway) who used mouth calls.
Pygmy
Dick was from Orchard Park, I believe... I met Maytom on a turkey hunting forum, in the late 90s...I can't remember which one..We hung out on several over the course of a few years. We attended 3 NWTF Annual Conventions together and hunted ducks, geese, and turkeys in NY and PA. We have also got together socially a number of times along with other internet friends. Lawdwaz
Orchard Park, New York. Not sure but I think his barber shop was in his house, on 20A? Can't be sure......... A good friend (deceased now) was the shooter on the cassette tape titled "Hunting The Boss Gobbler Of Letchworth Canyon" back in the 70's. Another friend was along on the hunt too.....
Pygmy
I'm guessing that may have been Doc ( Paul) Pelham, a veterinarian. I watched him win the first turkey calling contest I ever attended, in Portville in the late 70s or early 80s..He beat Dick Kirby in that contest.. I had the pleasure of meeting him...Fine gentleman..Liked his whiskey too !...<<grin>>..

maytom
Thanks for the introduction, Danno!!! Have to admit, we do go back many years ol' buddy. Think the last NWTF convention we were at was back in 2005? Think the very first time I met you and Slater was at Chuck's place for a goose hunt. That was the infamous thermos episode!!! Then it went downhill from there.....lol. Yeah, I attended Orchard Park for my 10-12th years, and went to the "Quaker Boy" barber shop for my haircuts. Dick Kirby, as we all know by now, was a barber before hitting it big with a turkey call company. I remember his young son Chris running around the shop while being in the chair. Chris was knee high to a totem pole back then. Sad that he passed away, was a great guy for sure.
kpkot
I met Dick a few times. He always stood out to me with his interest in kids. I swear that guy had 10 calls on him at all times just to see a kid smile by giving them one.
