First-light
My neighbor at camp can't stop telling me how many deer he has been seeing this spring/early summer. I guess this mild winter we just had doesn't subtract to the population that much. Ill be up to check cams July 15th that should give me a good look.
wooly
Same here Burt. My best night so far had 18 different bucks show up in the field at dusk. Lots of yearlings in the mix, but it's been a bunch of years since I've seen anything close to those kind of #'s here. Hope your cam doesn't overheat from all the action!
G-Man
Good thing harvest numbers were down due to heat last fall.. that has much bigger impact than the winter unless it's severe.
ATbuckhunter
Good thing because the deer herd needed it! I think the over abundance of acorns as well as the mild winters has really helped. Deer made it out healthier this winter than the last few winters. Hoping for a good season come October.
growalot
Yes ...but I'm a bit concerned about fawn #'s...we were seeing some but now no fawns...and doe that do not have noticeable bags....The corn is still very short here due to lack of rain....all of the hay fields have been cut and do not seem to be putting back much growth. Not quiet as many hiding places around...the under story in our woods has all but dried up.Even the swamp seems a bit thin on cover this year. hunterdan44
I've been seeing quite a few lambs this spring n early summer. I've always felt that the winter determines deer population more than any other factor. So I'm hoping all areas of the stAte rebound and we get a few mild winters in a row!
