Pygmy
Fishing... LOTS of fishing... I have a boat and the Finger lakes are a short drive away....After the ice goes out I try to get the boat out at least two days a week....I don't ice fish as much as I used to but still getout a few times each winter.. I support my hunting and fishing by handloading my own ammo and making my own fishing lures, such as flies and hair jigs.. HUNTING... LOTS of hunting... I hunt deer and turkey in season and extend my hunting with lots of small game hunting..My freezer is well stocked with squirrels and rabbits, plus a few ducks and goose breasts... The Month of may is committed to turkey hunting.. I hunt gobblers in Ontario, PA and NY... My significant other finds LOTS of domestic stuff for me to do in the meantime....We keep up yardwork on 3 different properties.... I take an out of state hunting or fishing trip now and then... And sometimes I take a couple hours in the afternoon and have a beer or two with my buddies at the local American legion... Other than THAT, I don't do much.... .... sweet old bill
I had started a small archery shop prior to retiring. Upon retirement I went full time with the shop and just closed down this past fall. At 70 my wife suggested I may want to take more time for myself than being tied up with the shop during the deer season. So I still shoot a lot of the 3d's, deer hunt with the bow and gun. I do not go small game hunting anymore, due to a bad leg and have a problem walkiing. I also love the spring and the month of May for turkey. I then start planning small trips to several fishing spots for I love small mouth bass or trout. I still make up custom arrows and will help tune a bow or two. I am very close to my one girl and see her, my son in law Mike and the two grandkids. My wife likes to walk in town for a hour a day, I walk the back hill by shooting my bow, I have 17 locations that have 2 targets at each one. It takes me about 1 1/2 hours. We also belong to two senior clubs and enjoy being with other seniors. We do go south to Myrtle Beach SC for the period of Jan to April 1. Thank god my son in law takes care of our place and plows it out / shovel off the roof. We have lots of friends from the northern USA and or Canada down her during these months, swim in heated pool each morning, shop, go out to dinner, and play cards etc. I also Joined a NFAA archery club for next year and I plan on taking the stick with me. The name of the club is Sand dune archery club Myrtle beach Sc. check it out on google.

Pygmy, sounds like you have a great retirement going, lots of things to do and friends to have a few beers with. I am just starting to get the hang of things. Sometimes I get bored with watching TV too much mostly news and hunting shows. I do have a place upstate but it is a 3 hr drive if I don't stop so I am not there till spring. I love it up there hunting, cutting and splitting fire wood for deer season. But too cold and isolated in the winter months, not many year round residents in my area. I got a nice dog who keeps me company and take him on long walks, he loves when we go up state. He can run loose not like on Long Island too much traffic. Sometimes I get stuck doing a lot of nothing and that bothers me to no end. Maybe it's a case of cabin fever we shall see. Have to expand and get more active before I bore myself to death. Well, spring is just around the corner. Pygmy thanks for some ideas, especially the having a few beers with the guys.Dave
Pygmy
Good luck with your retirement, Dave... I adjusted to retirement REAL fast... Took to it like a duck takes to water.. I am very fortunate to have several good friends with similar interests who retired at about the same time I did... I am also very fortunate to live in a beautiful rural area where hunting and fishing opportunities are literally right in my back yard...
