shu9265
Need some suggestions for an affordable hand held gps unit for hunting. Anyone use one that is easy to program way points and tracks into ? Looking for something easy to use. The old Magellan GPS 2000 I have now is about 10 miles off ! Or google maps is off by that much. Anyhow, I need to find a new one for this year.
Culvercreek hunt club
I use a Garmin eTrex. it works great but the labelign of the waypoints can be a little time consuming. No ke board so you have to scroll through the whole Alphabet....kind like the old arcade video games when you had a high score...lol. It was only $100. no maps.....but waypoints....route tracking. average speed and such. I have been thinking of getting one that you can upload maps on though. I think they might have discontinued this model but they must have another one out there. I used mine in Quebec on a caribou hunt and I use it on my lease land all the time. Always gets me home. nyantler
I have a GPS but never use it.. its older and takes way to long to use... I still use the trusty old compass in th ADK's.. I'd love to find a simple GPS as well.. makes it so much easier to find your way back to remote locations
shu9265
I am looking for one to use for hunting and also for trapping. In the swamps, it's really east to loose stuff in all those cattails.
Fletch
I bought an Etrex Legend for $40 buck new on clearance about 6 or 7 years ago, they went at the time for $150 or more. I was headed out west to hunt. I took it two years in a row but never did use it. I still have it but I have never read the hundreds of pages to operate it! Last year I used some miles and picked up the Bushnell backtrack and that came with a little 6 page instruction folder and is simple. I did use it a couple times this year when scouting new places. It is limited in only saves 3 spots. I think they have a new one out that does 5 or more. They sell fo $50 and give piece of mind. Just mark the truck and go. I have hunted the Dacks a lot and a few other big spots and I rarely ever even feel that I do not know where I am. I have very very good since of direction in the woods. I have been lost driving in just about half the major cities in this country. Including the one I have lived in for forty years!! My friend always joke I can not get across the city of Syracuse without getting lost but they could drop me miles in the woods from anywhere and I would walk right out. RangerClay
My Godson uses his phone. I believe its a Droid. Why buy a GPS when you can use a phone app.

Culvercreek hunt club
My Godson uses his phone. I believe its a Droid. Why buy a GPS when you can use a phone app. The only downfall with that is....I don't think the phones are as weather resistant as the GPS hand helds
Ford
I have the Delorme PN-20. I think now they are up to the PN-40. (or 60?) It is a very cool GPS. Although I would not say it is easy to use. The software side anyway..But you can download topos and color areial maps to the unit. The software has many features. Took me a while to get the hang of the software, but it is really cool.
