growalot
I just love this place where else could I go feed the chickens and have an adult bald eagle soar barely over the tree tops over my head the whole length of the property. Go home tell Mr. B of it and have him leave with the recycling to call me 5 mins later..."how far away was he? because right now he's 25 feet from me in the farmers field...I'm watching him take off with a meal "...How cool is that!...He said no kidding he's huge...beak must be over 4-5 inches long and your right the wht feathers on his neck almost look like fur in the wind...Yep fun watching the juveniles in the summer but the adults are a sight to behold...
New York Hillbilly
This one's for you Grow. He/she flew down and perched in a tree in our backyard, and was eyeing our little Terrier. In Alaska they refer to dogs like ours as "eagle bait"! Hahaha.... For a very good reason! Meet the object of his/her interest, Sadie, I mean "eagle bait". She was totally unaware of her potential to become a meal, as I raced her back into the house. : )
growalot
Great picture...But seriously that sweater is a real eye catcher! You need to dress her in camo wht. for winter and green for summer.....lol It's like shes in a handy carry sack....
New York Hillbilly
Excellent point on the clothing. I think the sweater may have accidentally turned her into a Happy Meal!

Pygmy
Yup....Like most predators, eagles are opportunists.. A couple of Amishmen got arrested this year up near our property for putting out a poisoned carcass to kill the " hawks" that were taking their lambs...It resulted in the confirmed death of two eagles plus who knows how many more predators that died and were not reported.. My eagle is WAY bigger than yours...........that bird has been feasting mightily on plastic decoys for weeks now. Where's Curmudgeon when I need him?

New York Hillbilly
At first I though he/she was not the sharpest pencil in the box, and got his/her hunting lesson backwards. Soar high, stare down, locate object of prey, then swoop in for the kill......uh....no....I'll stand on ground, stare up, locate object of prey.....and swoop up? Or, perhaps a form of hunting bird of prey dyslexia. Then it dawned on me, He/she was not a predator as much as a prankster. I remember doing this same move as a kid in the schoolyard. Nope....not falling for it! Hahahaha

Curmudgeon
4 more eagles looking up. What could be up there?
stubborn1VT
Eagles are predators, sure, but they're scavengers too. (As the pictures show) Could they be looking up at other birds? planes? I imagine they feel vulnerable on the ground. Thanks for sharing the pics. I saw an adult bald eagle the week before Christmas. I was working very close to Lake Champlain, here on the VT side. They are a sight to see!

In this picture from last winter, you'll note that this immature bald eagle is looking up. The reason is there were crows dive bombing him, same as in your picture. Curmudgeon
Good observation. In my trail cam photo, I was guessing another eagle was a threat. All 4 seem focused on a single point in the sky.
