Birdhunter
Plenty of turkeys in Putnam. Check these two sites for places to hunt: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7844.html http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/html/recreation/hunting_and_trapping.shtml I have been to many of them and most hold deer and turkeys. Get out there and scout them up and see which ones have what you are looking for. Be safe during the season.
drwost
Rumor has it that California Hill might have some birds
TeamBullsEye
Try this place, http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/34735.html. White Pond While I have not been there a couple of my co-workers have had a lot of success there. It looks like its right in your kneck of the woods also, no pun intended. They say Deer, Turkey, Fishing, all of it.
drwost
Unfortunately on the link, Hunting is Prohibited.

NYRturkeycall
I know this is an old thread, but I am new to Turkey hunting and plan on starting this spring. unfortunately I don't have the time to scout as I live in Suffolk county. Not looking for any specifics or looking to take anybody's spots, just want to know if Wonder lake is a decent place and big enough that a newbie can come in pre-dawn and stake out a spot. Thanks in advance.
BizCT
Where is wonder lake? Putnam County definitely has turkeys, but I never heard of the place you mentioned Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
NYRturkeycall
Ludingtonville road right next to 84 in patterson I believe. Looking for something remotely close to a main road as I'm already driving 2.5 hours one way for spring morning hunting.

Thanks in advance. Idk these woods but I do know my success on public is in direct ratio to my scouting. Its hard to think I would be successful without scouting on any property. Bow season bonus. A flock i saw on stand.
Yorehntr
Back in the 90’s early 2000’s there were tons of birds in Putnam and have taken a few. There’s still birds around, but in pockets.. definitely have to scout them out , if plan on sticking to public.
