hchunters
How many of you are planning on using your bow with a blind for the upcoming turkey season or will you just be sticking with the shotgun.
Doc
I still have a question about whether an arrow doesn't stuff feathers and crap in a nice little trail through the breast meat. Years ago, I was talking to a guy that quit bowhunting turkeys because of that problem. I guess I can easily imagine that being a problem. Anybody else ever notice that kind of meat damage? MuzzyLoader
I'm huntin' 'em with my bow this year, I HATE bitin' down on birdshot :-[ !
wooly
I don't even own a shotgun anymore so I don't have much choice. Have killed a hen and a jake with archery tackle durring our fall seasons but never a longbeard in the spring with my bow yet. Maybe this year. Good luck to ya! Fantail
Would like to give it a go with the bow out of the blind. Which reminds me to make sure the blinds in good shape and practice out of it.
nyantler
I'll being trying with the recurve exclusively again this year... I have had many good Tom's close, but without a good shot opportunity... still looking for my first with the recurve. Doc, I have eaten quite a few bow killed birds and haven't noticed that problem, maybe it has something to do wthe the type of broadhead used... I would think most sharp broadheads would clean cut the feather before entering the breast... not sure though.
Pat Rockets
It doesnt hurt to thouroghly clean the meat either..id like to recurve it also antler..but im not quite set up yet..what are you using on your rest? I want to implement a wisker buisquit for my carbons and its consistancy
nyantler
I shoot of the shelf.. no rest.. more traditional and works great... brace hieght is extremely important so you have to work with that a bit
Pat Rockets
I hear ya there..i get scoffed at by traditional guys when i say that(not that i aint used to that) i even put on a string loop for my release..im all about shot consistancy and comfort..you usin feathers with wood arrows?
nyantler
yep cedar with feathers... I just went to those a couple years ago though.. before that I shot Terminators... the wooden arrows shoot just as well... not as durable for practice though... so I only shoot a couple arrows at a time when practicing so I don't bust up a lot of arrows fom hitting one another in the target. Pat Rockets
I had our engineer at work who makes his own bows make me up a string..took a couple longshots at a round bail last yr..itchin ta git er done and shoot it again
nyantler
I shoot the flemish strings.. I'm sure that would be what he made you... What I like about using trad bow is that other than arrows (I pay about $125 a doz).. there is not much expense that comes after the initial cost of the bow... Doewhacker
I'm going to go with the bow again, I work in an Archery only area so its easy for me to walk out back and make a few calls. Last year I had some answer but I am sure they busted me moving around the tree, no blind for me, don't own one. I may try it around home too, I have been wanting to get one with the bow.
