mw419
Hey everyone, usually hunt the lower 5H area in the ADK. Bow season was SLOW....to say the least. Saw nothing, cameras slowed down tremendously! Headin back up for gun opener, was wondering if anyone has seen the start of some scrapes, rubs, increase in movement? I know its been warm, and nothing is what it should be.
Culvercreek hunt club
I was out up there for the muzzle loader opener. There were 5 of us and I hit two properties. lots and lots of does. We took 4. I walked around a bit but it was very loud with the leaves. There are normal areas that I see very good buck sign and active rub and scrape lines. I found one lone scrape and it didn't look that used. Unless this colder weather helps I sure didn't see anything this weekend that made me think next weekend would be full bore.
mw419
Ya, weather is definitely changing things up.....im not sure if it good or bad lol, i had crazy amounts of pics on the cameras of a few nice bucks and lots of doe up until literally 2 days before early bow and then nothing! with this warm weather, walking may be the move....or sit all day and try and get a better idea what they are doing. thanks for the update!! Coachdad
It looks like things are starting to heat up. I spotted 3 dead bucks on the Thruway between exit 28 and exit 24 yesterday. That is always my first sign. I'll be in the woods Friday, Saturday and Sunday... Also in lower 5H.
Northcountryman
Growing up, I used to fish the osgood river just below Meachem lake ; my grandfather had one of those old platform camps around Hays Brook; what part of region 5 is that? Thanks, David Edited October 31, 2017 by Northcountryman
Salmon_Run
I've noticed deer movement on the increase this week. The weather change and rut has them moving along now. I like hunting late season with light snow cover and the peak rut timing. I'm headed North tomorrow for the hunt. Best of luck out there... I did rattle in a decent buck 10 days ago. I'm headed up for veterans day weekend and it looks cold and a little snow.
Cedar+Canvas
Hunted the last 7 days in lower 5H and I concur with corydd7 that the heavy rain had them bedded, but from what I've seen the rut is on. Heavy scraping and rubbing and had close calls with two mature bucks thus far. One appeared to be tending a doe and one was out cruising. I have a feeling the temperature drop today will inspire some movement.
