OldNewbie
I have a blind a short walk out my back door, from which I took two deer last year and one this year (bow/xbow - too close to neighbors for firearms). Because it is so convenient, I've fallen into the habit of going for a sit almost every day, for a couple hours AM and in PM. I know this is probably a bad idea and I should 'rest' the stand. And in fact, I have seen zero deer there for the past week, since killing a doe there. I don't have any other stands on my land, so if not hunting in my 'home blind', I'm hunting state forest land. No blinds or stands there, just still hunting. Not been successful on state land yet. Question is - what is a 'safe' interval for using the home blind? Every other day, every third day? Once a week? Or better to just be random to avoid being patterned by the deer? Anyone else have a similar situation? What do you do? P.S. I know the best answer is to set some additional blinds/stands and rotate them, and it was on my to do list for this season.. life got in the way.. More info.. there are plenty of deer in the neighborhood.. we see them crossing the road, on neighbors lawns, and in the fields at night. They just seem to be avoiding the trail that my blind is set up on. That is mainly oak woods, some pines adjacent where they used to bed and I never go in there.. So maybe question two is, do you have to move blinds from year to year or can one spot be productive year after year? Still learning, thanks. vizslas
i took five deer in regular season and late muzzleloader out of the same blind Now i had my blind set at the back of the yard just before the field, so i never walked into the woods, just into the field to retrieve deer.At one point I had 3 behind me and ten in front of me while I was dragging.Took two on thanksgiving day one in the early evening and then a half hour later three more came out, one of them came home with me to.So I would think only if you get busted by the deer that your not going to be seeing them. Robhuntandfish
chances are the local population that goes through there prob has smelt enough of you. lol They are avoiding it because they dont feel safe. Even if they havent physically seen you there you still leave behind scent and signs of activity. Deer travel more at night and have prob become wary of the area and changed up trails. If you have snow look for some fresh sign of trail use and maybe try moving there. I dont really believe deer pattern people as they dont really have a sense of time, but they do know when someone is around a lot for sure. A blind is an easy move to setup and if you that hunt it right away. Hopefully the property is big enough to move a little. I bet there are still deer close by but maybe just out of sight of that blind. Good luck.

Jdubs
I have a similar situation which is why I started crossbow hunting. Depending upon the size of the area, I'd try to establish more than one hunting spot. In my area, I use a tree stand on one end and sit beside some large downfall in another. The deer seem accustomed to the sounds and smells of people who live and play nearby, but I still decide if/when to hunt those spots based on having favorable wind and weather. I personally wouldn't pound one spot over and over. YMMV
moog5050
I think a lot depends on your ability to access and leave the stand undetected (scent and sight). Also, where it sits in proximity to deer movement and bedding. As noted by Vislas, hunting from a stand that overlooks a field from your yard is probably fine to hunt often as long as you aren't blowing into the field when you sit and aren't visible.
WNYBuckHunter
I used to hunt at my fathers place alot. Single stand, limited area, but it was in a perfect funnel. As long as I paid attention to wind direction and scent control, I could shoot deer there and within a few mins have more come through. There were houses nearby, so the deer were used to some human presence. I even had multiple encounters with the largest buck I have ever seen in a hunting situation. I was able to hunt that stand more often than most, but it was the right situation. More details would be needed to asses your situation. Robhuntandfish
think it also depends on area. If there are a lot of deer or its real sectioned off by houses etc. Then the same few deer use the area.
