I sit in a tree with no branches, no cover around. Never been busted in this tree and have shot 5 deer with a bow. Depends on the hunter i guess and how wel you are at minimizing movement. I shoot my bow siting, 65lbs ( I can do 80), and with an elite so I can hold it back forever.

i'm thinking there's more options than that if you have a hangon stand.  you're just seeing them. you have to put yourself close enough to seal the deal. that said i've hunted secondary trails farther away from main activity to figure things out and form a plan before i setup in tight.

My friend loves cutting trees down around his stand thinking he's gonna have more lanes.  Me on the other hand I try and brush in both my ladder and behind me, especially if the tree is narrow or there is sky behind me.. now that I'm in my 30s I only use ladder stands...  I would get the closer spot and secure some brush around you.
