The_Real_TCIII
http://themeateater.com/hunt/whitetail-deer/why-midwest-whitetails-shedding-early We had several reports here of bucks dropping very early, myself included. This article attributes it to the extremely wet Fall
G-Man
I agree with what he says. I also believe strongly that a more balanced deer herd will cause earlier drops as all doe are bred and testosterone drops
NonTypical
I scouted a heavily used field from a distance last night. With a spotting scope, I only saw 3 bucks that dropped both sides. They all appeared to be young bucks. I also saw several other young bucks and mature bucks that were still holding both sides. It seems to be on schedule here, as I’ve seen them hold until February or March around here. Edited January 13, 2019 by NonTypical
greensider
There is no standard its all about how hard a particular buck rutted I have seen them drop anywhere from second week in December to first week in April this picture is two days ago still has antlers and still chasing
crappyice
Last year I was actively stalking a nice buck during shed season who refreshed to drop his horns. This is in an area that is way out of balance (think Pygmy the Million Woman March). Never found his rack but I will be back sooner than normal due to the weather this year. Good article!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
cbyzerman
Then my herd is probably out of wack.......... I usually dont see any dropping till around sbl and it is not uncommon for most bucks to still have antlers till late march........
